Overview The Assistant General Counsel & Senior Director, Transmission is a hybrid legal and business role responsible for providing legal analysis, advice, and guidance regarding transmission contract and business issues and leading work on FERC-jurisdictional transmission service contracts. Responsibilities Provides legal counsel to Xcel Energy company leadership regarding transmission contract and business matters. Handles complex legal and contractual matters regarding transmission service on a regular basis, often requiring creative solutions to challenging legal issues. Is regarded as an expert within the company and legal community in the designated practice area. Provides strategic advice to the company on long-term impacts of business decisions regarding transmission services provided by the company to wholesale customers. Leads work on FERC-jurisdictional transmission service contracts for Xcel Energy and its four operating companies, including complex contract negotiations and business relationship management, and associated employees. Provides strategic and tactical project negotiation advice and direction. Conceptualizes and manages continuous improvement within the transmission service arena and business implementation opportunities. Cultivates and proactively manages effective working relationships with internal and external customers and proactively manages transmission contract related work. Engages with other inside counsel, outside counsel, and regulatory experts as needed. Escalates issues needing further evaluation to company leadership and works to find beneficial solutions meeting regulatory requirements. Engages in active performance management and maintains high-quality professional relationships with transmission customers and interconnected transmission owners. Ensures ongoing interactions are managed according to applicable provisions of current contracts. Seeks to transform transmission business relationships into strategic assets by creating a climate of mutual understanding, trust and support. Defines and implements workflows, accountabilities, resource requirements, and reporting relationships to obtain optimum performance, implementation effectiveness and efficiency. Ensures transmission-related agreements are consistent with tariffs and FERC policy. Ensures internal processes, policies, and procedures align with all applicable regulatory and legal requirements, as well as with company objectives and strategies. Develops customer-driven solutions and resolves disputes with customers. Assembles internal/external resources necessary to address transmission customer issues and solve problems in a timely manner. Interfaces on both legal and technical customer matters with Legal, System Operations, Transmission Planning, control areas, reserve groups, neighboring transmission systems, and others as applicable. Provides strategic and tactical guidance and decision-making associated with public and contractual issues encountered during contract negotiations. Minimum Requirements Juris Doctorate degree from ABA accredited law school. Licensed to practice in state where position is located. Bachelor\'s degree in Engineering, Business, or related discipline, or equivalent combination of education, training and work experience. 10+ years of practice in corporate law department, law firm, government practice or equivalent legal experience. Leadership experience required. Demonstrated success in a supervisory role overseeing complex technical projects and relationships. Demonstrates and applies advanced knowledge of concepts, practices, and procedures in contract negotiation; cross-functional interaction; work direction; and performance management. Requires a high level of confidentiality and working knowledge of FERC order 888, 2000, 889 and 2004 and associated Standards of Conduct.
