Overview Boston Dynamics Consulting is seeking a Software Leader to serve as a technical authority and visionary to design and develop custom software that advances robotics and dynamic systems in customers’ environments. The leader will work with clients and Boston Dynamics core products to develop simulation and digital twin environments, including NVIDIA Omniverse. This role delivers projects with a sim-first approach and defines strategic architecture and technical direction, assists in the development of simulation environments or assets, and helps guide complex decisions impacting products, technical culture, and long-term innovation. The leader will translate knowledge internally to support additional client engagements or tools development that support Boston Dynamics projects and core initiatives. The role requires driving systemic improvements, developing custom software, influencing executive stakeholders, and elevating engineering capabilities across client teams and domains. The leader should be an expert in software development and simulation tools, and often serves as a cross-functional technical ambassador both internally and externally. Location note: This is a remote position, HQ based in Waltham, MA. Key Responsibilities Partner with clients to define, design, and build custom software solutions that advance the adoption of dynamic robotic systems in customer-specific settings. Build and integrate tools to configure, simulate, and test robots in their environments. Anticipate technology trends and provide guidance on technical architectures, simulation tools, and strategy for robotics platforms and related infrastructure. Lead the design and implementation of foundational software frameworks that scale across autonomous systems, embedded platforms, and cloud-based services. Work with custom payloads and hardware systems to resolve complex, high-risk technical challenges across perception, planning, controls, safety, and hardware/software integration. Collaborate with engineering leadership, product management, and executive stakeholders to align technical strategies and build capabilities that support the core business. Mentor and elevate engineers across teams, serving as a multiplier for technical excellence. Represent the organization in industry forums, academia, standards bodies, or strategic partnerships. Act as a cultural and technical steward—reinforcing engineering excellence, innovation, and ethical robotics development. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: Global expertise in software, robotics, autonomy, embedded systems; mastery of core robotics disciplines; strong knowledge of simulation and robotics tools (e.g., NVIDIA Omniverse, Isaac Sim, USD, URDF); ability to reason about hardware/software trade-offs and communicate strategically; experience influencing internal standards and engineering culture; active contribution to technical leadership communities. Qualifications Bachelor’s, Master’s, or Ph.D. in Computer Science, Robotics, Engineering, or related field. Experience working with external clients and owning customer relationships and delivery of technical projects. 14+ years of experience in robotics software engineering or embedded systems development. Track record of innovation, system leadership, and domain-defining contributions in robotics. Experience mentoring staff- and principal-level engineers and shaping technical roadmaps at the enterprise level.
