Overview Chief Commercial Officer (CCO) – Australia OR US based (reporting to our CEO). This newly created role is part of Avance Clinical's executive leadership team and is responsible for developing and executing the company's commercial strategy alongside the CEO. The CCO will bring global leadership experience, a proven track record in selling services to the biotech sector worldwide, and the ability to enhance board visibility through strategic business development initiatives. Avance Clinical is a Contract Research Organisation that supports drug development for the pharmaceutical and biotechnology industry. We have a history dating back to the 1980s and have grown consistently, with a strong, employee-centric culture and clear career progression.
Responsibilities
Market Expansion :
Conduct thorough global market analysis to identify growth opportunities and gaps in existing markets.
Develop and execute regional and strategic plans to drive revenue growth and market expansion.
Resource and support market entry strategies for new geographic regions or niches within the CRO sector to support service delivery to biotechs.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to execute market expansion initiatives, including market research, marketing and sales strategies, regulatory compliance, and operational readiness.
Business Development :
Lead the global business development team in identifying, pursuing, and securing new clients and projects, leveraging current US networks to drive new US business wins and aligning with Avance Clinical’s strategic objectives.
Identify and pursue business opportunities within the biotech sector using industry knowledge and networks.
Cultivate and maintain strong client relationships, ensuring satisfaction and loyalty.
Foster proactive client engagement and excellence in client relationship management, including on-ground support as needed.
Team Leadership :
Build a high-performing commercial team, providing mentorship and leadership while fostering a collaborative and innovative work environment.
Strategic Partnerships :
Identify, evaluate, and engage potential strategic partners including biotech companies, consultants, vendors, funding bodies, and other stakeholders.
Nurture and maintain relationships with key industry stakeholders to explore collaboration opportunities.
Negotiate partnership agreements and contracts aligned with Avance Clinical's goals and client needs.
Innovation :
Encourage a culture of innovation within the business development team by promoting creative thinking and problem-solving.
Identify emerging technologies and trends that can enhance Avance Clinical's commercial efforts.
What you’ll need to succeed
Proven global leadership experience with 10+ years in a commercial role within the CRO, clinical research, or biopharmaceutical industry, with a focus on APAC and the US.
Demonstrated success in selling services to biotech clients and understanding their needs.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; ability to engage effectively with internal and external stakeholders.
Strategic mindset with creative problem-solving abilities.
Strong network and relationships within the biotech and pharmaceutical industries.
Exceptional leadership and team-building skills, with the ability to mentor a diverse team.
Strong negotiation, presentation, and communication skills.
Strategic, solution-focused, and commercially savvy approach.
Strong financial acumen and budget management skills.
Bachelor’s degree in a related field; MBA or advanced degree preferred.
