Base pay range $170,000.00/yr - $250,000.00/yr Location: Washington, DC (Hybrid – 3 Days On-Site Weekly) Compensation: Salary commensurate with experience Status: Full-Time Reports to: Chief Executive Officer (CEO) About the Organization Our client is a mission-driven nonprofit organization with an annual operating budget exceeding $80 million. Headquartered in Washington, DC, the organization is dedicated to impactful programs that serve communities nationwide and drive measurable change. Position Overview The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) will serve as a strategic thought partner to the CEO and Board of Directors, providing financial leadership, vision, and direction for the organization. The CFO will oversee all aspects of finance, accounting, and compliance, ensuring fiscal integrity and sustainability. A key member of the executive leadership team, the CFO will be responsible for clear, confident communication of financial performance, forecasts, and strategy to the Board and key stakeholders. Key Responsibilities Provide strategic financial leadership and guidance to the CEO, Board of Directors, and senior leadership. Prepare and present clear, concise financial reports and analyses to the Board and Finance Committee. Lead the annual budgeting process and long-term financial planning. Oversee all accounting functions, including monthly close, audits, compliance, and internal controls. Ensure compliance with GAAP, IRS regulations, and other relevant federal and state requirements. Supervise finance staff and collaborate with program and operations teams to align financial goals with mission impact. Manage organizational cash flow and forecasting. Oversee relationships with external auditors, banks, and financial institutions. Partner with development, program, and HR teams on grant budgeting, financial reporting, and risk management. Drive system and process improvements to support scalable financial operations. Qualifications Minimum 10 years of progressive financial management experience, preferably in the nonprofit sector. Experience managing or advising organizations with $50M+ in annual revenue. Strong communication and presentation skills, with a proven ability to engage and inform Boards and senior leadership. Demonstrated leadership and team management experience. Deep understanding of nonprofit accounting, fund accounting, and grant compliance. CPA strongly preferred. MBA, MPA, or related advanced degree a plus. Must reside within a commutable distance to downtown Washington, DC and be able to work on-site at least three days per week.
