We are looking for a Consultant to join Vista’s Value Creation Team (VCT) in the Product and Technology (P&T) Practice. Vista’s Product and Technology Value Creation Team serves as a trusted advisor to portfolio company leaders to achieve transformational success through Product, Technology, and Cybersecurity strategies and operations. This team works closely with our CTOs, CPOs, CISOs and other technology leaders to drive growth through product and engineering excellence. A significant focus is enabling portfolio companies to adopt modern product and engineering practices, including accelerating AI (LLM and agent-based) product offerings, improving engineering efficiency, and strengthening technology architecture and resiliency. You will contribute to both pre-investment P&T diligence (assessing market-leading software assets) and post-investment transformation (working directly with portfolio leaders to unlock enterprise value).
This role is based in San Francisco, CA, Austin, TX, or remote locations and is available for an immediate start. We support flexible ways of working, but believe the best mentorship and collaboration happens at least partly in person. The most successful candidates will have the ability to be in the office a few days most weeks.
Responsibilities
As a Consultant on the team, you will:
Work closely with VCT colleagues, investment team members, and portfolio company executives to drive product and technology initiatives across our portfolio companies that lead to clear business outcomes and enterprise value
Work with investment teams to develop investment theses to conduct Product and Technology due diligence, and identify core value creation opportunities for new prospective investments
Work with VCT colleagues, investment team members, and portfolio company executives on value creation initiatives that span the different P&T functional areas of our companies (i.e., Engineering and Architecture, Product Management, AI, Cybersecurity)
Help drive rapid development of new AI products within our portfolio companies, and work with the latest AI vendors to develop best practices for our companies’ engineering, product and design teams
This role will give exposure to investment decision making, value creation and transformation and will help you gain practical experience scaling the world’s premier software/technology businesses. Former members of this team have gone on to accelerate their careers in larger leadership roles within Vista and joined companies in the Vista portfolio as operators in key strategic roles.
Primary Responsibilities
Problem Framing & Solving
Structure and run workshops (e.g., use case readiness, architecture readiness, code generation, product business case reviews)
Analytics & Modeling
Provides analytical support and modeling for P&T value creation projects and initiatives
Presents analysis in a logical, credible, and thorough manner
Builds client ready deliverables and work product that are structured in accordance with best-in-class consulting standards
Develops fact-based conclusions that are supported by evidence and data
Influencing throughput to results drive portfolio executives and cross-functional teams toward clarity, alignment, and execution on strategic initiatives
Project / Workstream Mgmt. Structure and manage workstreams, synthesize complex inputs into clear next steps, and ensure accountability for measurable results
Qualifications
Passion and curiosity for technology, software and data, as well as what makes successful technology companies and investors
Basic proficiency in modern AI tools (both for general analysis and code generation/prototyping)
2-4 years of experience, across either management consulting and investment banking, or operating experience in software, ideally in a role focused on Product Management or Software Engineering
Demonstrates the ability to foster teamwork while working on projects and ability to work independently with little supervision when needed
Experience in technology strategy, analysis and execution
Willingness to travel up to 25% of time
Strong communication and project management skills
Experience in managing and influencing others indirectly
Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, both in individual and collaborative environments
Ability to drive cross-functional analysis, integrating perspectives on technology, business and finance
Ability to bring structure to large, complex questions with limited guidance
Ability to multi-task, operate independently, and deliver on tight deadlines
Preferred Engineering or Computer Science degree from a top undergraduate institution
The pay range for this role is expected to be between $110,000 - $140,000. Actual base pay could vary based on factors including but not limited to experience, subject matter expertise, geographic location where work will be performed and the applicant’s skill set. The base pay is just one component of the total compensation package for employees. Other components may include an annual cash bonus and a comprehensive benefits package.
