Summary of Role: At GHJ, our Tax Practice is comprised of over 100 professionals with advanced degrees in tax, law or business. Our team specializes in complex tax issues for privately held businesses, including federal, state and local tax strategies, tax credit maximization, estate planning and international matters. We work with clients to maximize tax benefits and provide sophisticated, tailored advice. We also offer access to tax and industry resources through events, blogs and publications. This position offers growth potential and supports expanding our pass-through entity and private equity tax practice to address current and future client needs in tax compliance and consulting. This role is ideal for a candidate who wants to directly impact the growth of a specialized niche within an existing tax practice.
You will be responsible for The Tax Manager is responsible for the efficient, accurate, complete, and timely preparation of all clients’ tax returns, whether prepared personally or supervised by others. Advanced technical skills in tax and accounting, along with management and supervisory abilities, are required. The Tax Manager may have input on any tax issue presented.
Perform technical tax review and approval of all tax returns and governmental tax examinations of any complexity.
Assume full responsibility for larger tax returns and delegate to the various tax preparers as deemed necessary.
Delegate, manage, and perform tax research projects to achieve an accurate and efficient product.
Participate actively in client meetings and tax planning efforts to assist the Auditing and Accounting Department with larger clients.
Act as a resource for tax preparers and A&A staff on specific tax issues and questions.
Coordinate with M&A, SALT, and ITS tax specialty teams on projects to deliver an accurate and efficient product.
Assist and supervise tax preparers with more complex business returns.
Assume client service responsibility for clients the tax manager works directly with or clients where responsibility is delegated from the partner.
Communicate important tax developments affecting the firm’s clients to appropriate firm personnel.
Maintain familiarity with qualifications of all tax staff members and review staff assignments for appropriateness.
Develop and train staff by assisting in recruiting, performance evaluations, training materials, and professional development instruction.
Ensure smooth flow of tax returns through the preparation system to deliver accurate, complete, and timely returns.
Maintain knowledge of the firm’s philosophy and its opinions on tax matters.
Stay informed about economic and political trends that could affect tax or legislation.
Participate in practice development through referrals, community and industry activities.
Responsible for engagement profitability, including billings and collections.
Participate in firm committees and management meetings.
Proficient in computer tax preparation, tax research, and tax planning software; capable of operating a computer and calculator.
Willingness to participate in the firm’s Mentoring Program.
Perform other duties as assigned.

What skills & experience you’ll bring to us Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Business, or related equivalent, and CPA certification.
5+ years of experience in tax at a public accounting firm or equivalent.
Master of Science in Taxation or a J.D. highly preferred for Tax Management Position.
Minimum of 40 hours of continuing education required each year to maintain and develop technical and business skills and license requirements.
Compensation
Salary range: A reasonable estimate of the current range is: $135,000 - $160,000.
