About the role Our Corporate Finance & Strategy team serves as a strategic partner to Anthropic’s leadership, driving data-informed decisions that shape our company’s future. We are seeking a Finance & Strategy - G&A Opex Finance Business Partner to be a strategic advisor and analytical leader for our Finance, People, Legal, Policy, and Workplace functions. You will partner closely with leadership across these organizations to drive financial planning, provide data-driven insights, and support strategic decision-making as we scale our operations.
As a key member of the finance team, you will own the financial narratives for G&A, translating complex data into actionable insights that inform resource allocation, headcount planning, and operational efficiency initiatives. This role offers the opportunity to make a significant impact on Anthropic's growth trajectory while working at the forefront of AI development and deployment.
Responsibilities: Serve as the lead finance business partner to Executive Budget Owners across G&A functions (Finance, People, Legal, Policy, Workplace, etc), providing strategic financial guidance and thought partnership
Lead the annual budgeting and quarterly forecasting processes for G&A operating expenses, including headcount planning and people analytics
Develop and maintain financial models to support strategic initiatives, business case development, and scenario planning
Deliver insights on key performance indicators, spending trends, and operational efficiency opportunities through regular business reviews and ad-hoc analyses
Partner with People Operations and Recruiting to analyze headcount trends, hiring plans, and compensation structures
Build scalable reporting frameworks and dashboards to provide self-service access to financial and operational metrics
Collaborate cross-functionally with Accounting, Data, and other stakeholders to ensure data integrity and alignment on financial definitions
Identify process improvement opportunities and drive initiatives to enhance financial planning capabilities and operational rigor
Prepare executive-level presentations and materials for leadership and board discussions
Support month-end and quarter-end close activities, including forecasting and variance analysis
You may be a good fit if you: Have 5+ years of experience in finance, with significant exposure to FP&A, business partnering, or strategic finance roles
Have demonstrated experience managing operating expense budgets and headcount/people analytics
Possess exceptional analytical skills with the ability to synthesize complex data into clear, actionable insights
Are a strong communicator who can build trusted relationships and influence stakeholders at all levels of the organization
Have advanced proficiency in financial modeling, Excel/Google Sheets, and SQL
Thrive in fast-paced, high-growth environments and are comfortable with ambiguity
Exhibit strong business judgment and a strategic mindset, with the ability to balance big-picture thinking with attention to detail
Are highly collaborative and enjoy working cross-functionally to solve complex problems
Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Business, Economics, Mathematics, or related field
Have a passion for Anthropic's mission to build safe, transformative AI systems
Strong candidates may also: Have experience at a high-growth technology company or startup
Possess expertise with modern financial planning tools (e.g., Anaplan, Pigment)
Have experience with data visualization and BI tools (e.g., Looker, Tableau, Mode)
Have worked in SaaS or consumption-based business models
Hold an MBA, CPA, or other relevant advanced degree or certification
The expected base compensation for this position is $235,000 - $310,000 USD.
Logistics Education requirements: We require at least a Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent experience.
Location-based hybrid policy: Currently, we expect all staff to be in one of our offices at least 25% of the time.
