Our client, a major electric vehicle manufacturer, is actively looking for a Data Protection Engineer to join their team based in either Palo Alto, CA 92606 or Irvine, CA . This role offers a hybrid schedule (3 days onsite: M/W/F). Contract Duration: 6+ months Schedule: M-F (8 am - 5 pm) with flexibility based on business needs The Data Protection Engineer will enhance Rivian's cybersecurity posture by focusing on tactical data protection operations, automation, and tool development to safeguard sensitive information. Responsibilities include securing email systems, endpoints, and critical platforms, while driving proactive data protection strategies aligned with cybersecurity objectives. The ideal candidate will possess a strong technical background, a passion for automation, and the ability to design and implement innovative solutions to protect sensitive data and applications in dynamic environments. What You Will Be Doing Implement and maintain data protection tools ensuring optimal configuration and performance. Develop and manage policies for data loss prevention (DLP) and detection, including scanning and identifying sensitive data across systems. Monitor and respond to data protection incidents, providing support to maintain security and availability. Integrate and optimize data protection tools with other security platforms using APIs, scripting, and orchestration frameworks. Conduct regular assessments of data protection controls to ensure they meet evolving threats and organizational goals. Support data discovery and classification initiatives to ensure sensitive information is protected. Assist in implementing context-aware access controls and ensure compliance with data security policies. Collaborate with stakeholders to understand data sensitivity and support business data protection needs. Work with IT, Privacy, Legal, and Cybersecurity teams to align tactical data protection measures with broader security objectives. Required Skills & Experience Experience managing DLP tools and configuring data protection policies in corporate environments. Scripting and programming skills (e.g., Python, Bash) for automation and tool integration. Ability to integrate security tools using APIs and customize workflows. Experience with endpoint and email security platforms. Proficiency with infrastructure-as-code tools (e.g., Terraform, Ansible). Understanding of CI/CD pipelines and version control systems (e.g., Git).
