Overview Data Management and Strategy - Senior Manager – Oil & Gas Sector Location: Houston, Texas (preferred) EY delivers data, analytics, and digital capabilities to help clients in the oil & gas sector transform operations, governance, and data platforms. The role provides strategic leadership on data management, governance, and analytics to deliver measurable business outcomes for oil & gas clients. This is a high-growth, high-visibility role with opportunities to shape digital and data strategies across the sector. Responsibilities Lead engagement delivery and manage client relationships on a daily basis. Develop resource plans and budgets for engagements, ensuring effective engagement economics. Define and execute analytics and data governance strategy for oil & gas clients, aligning with business objectives and regulatory requirements. Develop and implement robust data governance frameworks, including policies, data stewardship models, roles, and accountability across the organization. Oversee Master Data Management (MDM), metadata management, and data cataloging to ensure data consistency, discoverability, and trust. Ensure compliance with data privacy, protection, and regulatory standards (e.g., GDPR, CCPA), coordinating with Legal, Security, and Risk teams. Lead and mentor a multidisciplinary team of analysts, engineers, and data stewards to deliver high-quality outcomes. Design scalable, secure, and cost-effective data architectures to support business intelligence and advanced analytics. Oversee cloud-based data management platforms and technologies (e.g., Databricks, Snowflake, Azure, AWS, Hadoop) for ingestion, storage, and processing. Drive the design and implementation of analytical models, data pipelines, and visualizations to solve complex problems and generate actionable insights. Apply advanced analytics and machine learning to improve operational efficiency and reduce cost. Translate business initiatives into prioritized use cases with measurable ROI and manage delivery across multiple domains. Develop and champion data literacy programs, training, and change management to embed a data-driven culture. Communicate analytical findings with dashboards and visualizations tailored to business and technical audiences. Build trusted relationships with client stakeholders across operations, IT, engineering, and executive leadership. Stay informed about emerging technologies and oil & gas domain trends. Qualifications/Requirements Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred in a quantitative or technical field (e.g., statistics, computer science, engineering, mathematics) with prior consulting experience. At least 8 years of relevant experience in data analytics, data governance, or data strategy, preferably in the oil & gas industry. Experience deploying analytics solutions across upstream, midstream, and downstream domains. Deep knowledge of data governance, data quality frameworks, stewardship models, compliance, and policy creation. Experience in Master Data Management (MDM), metadata, lineage tracking, and data catalog tools (e.g., Collibra, Alation). Proficiency with data analytics tools and platforms (SQL, Python, R, Power BI, Tableau, Cognite, Palantir, Dataiku, or similar). Hands-on experience with big data and cloud platforms such as Databricks, Snowflake, Azure, AWS, Hadoop. Ability to lead large-scale digital transformation engagements, manage delivery risk, and foster client relationships. Strong communication and stakeholder management skills across technical and business domains. Mentoring mindset with a passion for building high-performing data teams. Experience with data engineering tools and data orchestration platforms; strong understanding of data privacy implications in oil & gas. Willingness to travel to client locations; valid U.S. driver’s license. Preferred/Optional Experience deploying data products in ESG reporting, operational efficiency, or safety compliance in industrial environments. Familiarity with data mesh concepts and decentralized data ownership models. Certifications in Azure Data Engineer, Snowflake, Databricks, or related platforms. Experience with Data Office Organization and IT Architecture; familiarity with digital fluency and hybrid collaboration. Emotional agility to navigate complex interpersonal dynamics. Compensation and Benefits The base salary range for this job in all geographic locations in the US is disclosed during the recruitment process.
