The Data Strategy & Governance Director leads the collection, management, and analysis of data to develop insights for use in decision-making and setting business priorities. This leader consults with management to discuss data insights and trends, and determines strategies for data management and solutions that serve those needs. He or she collaborates with senior management to translate and integrate data into strategic plans and to instill data governance practices across AARP Foundation.
Responsibilities
Develops and implements data governance framework, policies, and standards to monitor multiple data sources for data quality, information security, and privacy standards. Establishes and supports data stewardship roles and responsibilities, and monitors practices across the organization. Facilitates a community of data stewards, technology counterparts, and business stakeholders to advance data practices.
Collaborates with cross-functional teams to elicit data requirements and manage data integration, working through delivery teams responsible for integration. Maintains a view, and articulates the vision for, the overall data management roadmap.
Serves as the Subject Matter Expert by advising external (vendors) and internal partners on data-related matters and questions.
Oversees the use of data governance technology solutions, such as metadata management and data lineage tools. Accountable for the adoption of solutions through promotion and education that advances the organization’s data literacy.
Serves as a liaison between Business and Functional areas and technology to ensure that data-related business requirements for protecting sensitive data are clearly defined, communicated, well-understood, and considered as part of operational prioritization and planning.
Serves as an informed thought leader to identify new business opportunities pertaining to the use of information assets to achieve efficiency and effectiveness in the marketplace.
Qualifications
5+ years of experience providing strategic direction for data products, programs, or platforms. 3+ years of hands-on experience leading or supporting data governance programs. Proven success engaging data owners and leading data communities in a matrixed organizational structure. 3+ years of experience designing and implementing scalable data architectures. Preferred: Certified Data Management Professional (CDMP) Certified Data Governance Professional (CDGP) AWS Certified Data Engineer TOGAF9 DASCA Data Architect Certification 8+ years total experience in the industry AARP will not sponsor an employment visa for this position at this time.
