* * * * * * * * * * * * The Washington State Attorney General’s Office seeks an excellent, highly motivated, experienced attorney with strong management skills to become one of five Deputy Attorneys General. The position will directly supervise legal divisions within the office that work on a broad range of litigation, advice, and transactional issues for state clients. This position would also serve as a member of the Office's Core Leadership Team and advise and consult with the Attorney General and other executives on a variety of legal, administrative, and management issues.
This position reports to the Chief Deputy Attorney General and will preferably be located in Olympia. A Seattle or Spokane location may also be considered depending on circumstances such as the successful candidate’s county of residence. Occasional travel throughout the state is required.

Qualifications Successful applicants must have experience managing attorneys and other legal professionals within a public law office. Successful applicants must also have experience litigating and advising public sector clients, possess excellent oral and written communication skills, and exercise outstanding judgment. Additionally, successful applicants must have strong management skills, which include experience and interest in building and maintaining a supportive, productive, and innovative team dynamic across multiple locations. Successful applicants must actively foster diversity, inclusion, and belonging in the workplace. An ability to develop and sustain strong relationships within the Office and externally with our state agency clients, legislators, the media, and stakeholders is necessary.
Applicants must have graduated from a law school accredited by the ABA or completed the WSBA's Rule 6 Law Clerk Program; and be licensed to practice law in Washington state. (Applicants who meet the other stated qualifications and are actively pursuing admission by motion will also be considered.) Supplemental Information This Deputy Attorney General position is not represented by the Association of Washington Assistant Attorneys General (AWAAG) / Washington Federation of State Employees (WFSE) AFSCME Council 28, AFL-CIO. Deputy AG salary is set at $193,228 annually . IF the official duty station of the person selected is King County, salary would be eligible for 5% King County Assignment Pay.
