Overview Creative Support Lead at The Crowd (Recruitment for Architecture, Engineering & Design). Our client, a globally recognized multi-disciplinary design consultancy specializing in wayfinding, planning, and spatial experiences, is seeking a dynamic and versatile Design Director to join their close-knit team in San Francisco. In this role, you will take leadership of the design process, from concept to delivery, across a diverse, multi-sector portfolio within wayfinding and information design. Based in the San Francisco Bay Area studio, you’ll collaborate with a talented, expanding team to ensure projects are delivered to the highest standard. You will also work closely with high-profile blue chip clients, Project Leads, and leadership departments across their international offices, with occasional travel to project sites and industry events. This is an exciting opportunity to join a rapidly growing company with a strong pipeline of upcoming projects. Base pay range $110,000.00/yr - $130,000.00/yr
Key Responsibilities Lead wayfinding and information design projects from concept to delivery
Act as both Project Lead and discipline lead, and take on Creative Director duties when required
Oversee project planning with Project Managers, including objectives, milestones, schedules, and deliverables
Delegate tasks to the wider team, providing oversight, support, and mentoring
Build strong client relationships, leading communications, presentations, and workshops with stakeholders
Monitor project scope and support fee negotiations with clients
Liaise with subcontractors and suppliers to ensure smooth delivery
Manage and support junior staff through effective line management
Key Skills / Requirements Proven experience leading complex design projects, ideally within wayfinding, information, or spatial design
Strong leadership and client-facing skills
Excellent project management capabilities, balancing multiple priorities under pressure
Confident in presenting ideas and leading workshops with diverse stakeholders
Highly organised, with a strong eye for detail and a solutions-focused mindset
Collaborative team player with experience mentoring and developing junior designers
