Job Details Job Location : Corporate Headquarters - Santa Clara, CA Salary Range : $111001.00 - $172052.00 Salary/year Description ABOUT LIFEMOVES LifeMoves is the largest and most effective provider of housing and services for neighbors experiencing homelessness in Silicon Valley since 1987. Our Mission is to end homelessness by providing interim housing, supportive services, and building collaborative partnerships. With 40 programs, LifeMoves gives our neighbors experiencing homelessness a temporary place to call home while providing intensive, customized case management through site-based programs and community outreach. Through our Theory of Change, we offer trauma-informed, data-driven, and client-centered services that empower individuals and families to regain stable housing and achieve long-term self-sufficiency. POSITION PURPOSE The Director of Community Engagement and Public Affairs is a key liaison between LifeMoves and government, community, and business leaders within San Mateo and Santa Clara Counties. The Director is charged with educating key stakeholders on the organization’s service delivery approach, intended impact, program data, and impending projects. This includes, but is not limited to, HomeKey sites as well as overall issues, policy trends, and best practices that are present in the programs, operations, and supportive services for individuals and families experiencing homelessness. The Director also plays an important role in recruiting supporters and partners, and advocating for LifeMoves through relationship building, public speaking, writing, and analysis. This is a hybrid position that allows two days in the office and three days of remote work. ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES Supporting Programs Partner with Program Directors and other on-site staff to arrange tours for public employees, elected officials and their staff, members of the press, and community groups/members to educate stakeholders about the LifeMoves approach and overall issues within the housing and homelessness space.
Serve as an organizational liaison between cities, counties, and municipalities in concert with the program staff, Quality Assurance Manager, and other relevant staff.
Build and maintain relationships with public sector staff for coordinated efforts.
Partner with the Impact and Learning department to understand key trends across programs, leverage data to craft compelling narratives and develop key talking points for LifeMoves leadership.
Learn and stay informed on new, evolving, and sun-setting LifeMoves activities across the two service counties.
Government Relations Build and maintain relationships with elected officials and their staff in service of the LifeMoves mission and approach to serving and supporting unhoused community members.
Inform and educate elected officials and their staff on LifeMoves' projects, sites, and services within their jurisdictions, as well as overall trends in homelessness, service needs, policies, and other relevant information.
Craft and deliver tailored messages, communications, and information to send to elected officials and their staff, as well as public employees.
Partner with the Salesforce Administrator to maintain a current list of elected officials and their staff, along with relevant public partners and municipal staff in organizational systems
Coordinate with the Grants, Contracts, and Compliance team to stay up-to-date on public funders and potential new funding and grant opportunities.
Act as the organizational liaison between LifeMoves and local law enforcement
Represent LifeMoves in public meetings, study sessions, etc., offering public comment in support of grants, policies, and reports
Community Engagement Collaborate with the LifeMoves leadership team and board on public-facing messaging that supports the LifeMoves vision and strategic direction.
Inform and educate the general public and specific targeted audiences in partnership with the Marketing department.
Consult with the PR Manager and marketing team on organizational press inquiries.
Serve as one of the public faces of LifeMoves at community events, nonprofit convenings, panels, discussions, etc.
Partner with the Volunteer team on community outreach and engagement opportunities.
Coordinate with corporate giving in service of public/private partnerships, corporate social responsibility programs, and other relevant activities.
Perform other duties as assigned to support the program, department, and organization’s needs.
Qualifications QUALIFICATIONS Bachelor's degree and 5+ years of relevant experience, or a combination of education and relevant experience.
Knowledge of Bay Area press and government officials is key.
Strong strategic communications background, including experience in executive communications, issues management, and media strategy.
Demonstrated ability to earn credibility and influence opinion leaders.
Understanding of brand management principles.
Proven experience working collaboratively with groups across a large organization and key stakeholders.
Demonstrated ability to work in deadline, fast-paced and high-pressure situations.
A commitment to promoting and supporting an environment of diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging.
Government or nonprofit/social service experience is preferred.
Public affairs, government relations background or agency experience is desirable.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES N/A TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS T his position requires regular travel between agency sites, community partner locations, client service events, and external meetings. As such: A valid California driver’s license and reliable transportation are required.
Must be able to travel throughout the Bay Area as part of regular duties.
Mileage reimbursement is provided in accordance with agency policy.
Occasional evening or weekend travel may be required to attend community events or support client services.
Must maintain vehicle insurance as required by law and agency policy.
