Overview Director of Engineering, Cloud Application Platform. This is a hands-on leadership role to lead the design, development, and evolution of Legion's cloud-native application platform that powers all of Legion's product teams. You will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to provide reusable services, APIs, and tools that enable product teams to deliver features rapidly and reliably, while meeting high standards of scalability and security. This is a remote role within the US. This is a hands-on leadership role where you'll spend ~30–40% of your time contributing to design and code, and the rest driving vision, roadmap, and cross-team adoption. Responsibilities Hire and build a globally distributed engineering team. Mentor, coach, and manage a team of cloud platform engineers, fostering a culture of collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement. Own the platform roadmap: define, prioritize, and deliver core platform features that accelerate product delivery (e.g., developer self-service, service templates, reusable APIs, observability, security guardrails). Define and measure engineering OKRs. Contribute to design and implementation in Java when needed, ensuring best practices and setting technical direction. Stay current with cloud technologies, trends, and best practices; provide technical guidance and thought leadership. Ensure the platform meets security, compliance, and data protection standards; implement and maintain robust security measures and protocols. Interface with customer success and implementation teams to resolve customer issues. Participate in the incident management on-call rotation to help meet availability goals, in collaboration with reliability engineers and the development team. Required Qualifications 8-12 years of experience in cloud platform design and development. 8+ years of experience architecting and delivering large-scale cloud application platforms using Java, Spring Boot, and relational databases such as MySQL. 5+ years of experience leveraging observability platforms (e.g., Datadog, Prometheus) to measure and improve platform adoption, performance, and reliability. 5+ years of experience with data modeling and relational databases. 3+ years of experience managing fully remote teams in a startup environment. Demonstrated experience in the design and implementation of scalable cloud or mobile solutions. Demonstrated experience in timely delivery of a product to market with customer rollout understanding. Proven track record of problem-solving and root-cause analysis. Bachelor\'s degree in Engineering required; Master\'s degree preferred. Preferred Qualifications Experience with leading next-generation technology, including public cloud services. 5+ years of experience leading scrum teams (as scrum master or similar). Javascript, Angular or React UX framework experience. 3+ years of experience with Kubernetes or other containerization/orchestration platforms. Compensation & Benefits Salary Range: Base Salary Range $220,000 - $263,000 + Bonus + Stock Equity As a fully remote employer, pay is determined using local, national, and industry-specific survey data. Salaries are based on location, experience, education, and skills, with consideration of external market rate and internal equity.
