About the Role We are looking for a hands-on Director of Engineering to lead our Growth pillar, which is responsible for growing Tubi’s visitors, viewers, and registered users. You will oversee multiple pods (User Identity, Cross-device, Marketing Tech, CRM, Campaign Optimization, Web Growth, International, and New User), each focused on driving user acquisition, engagement, and retention.
This role is both technical and strategic. You will guide system design and technical direction, mentor and scale engineering teams, and contribute code and architecture when needed. You’ll partner closely with product, design, and data leaders to deliver impact at scale. Some team members are in Beijing (China Standard Time), so you’ll need to attend evening meetings and may travel to Beijing, no more than once a year.
What Youll Do
Technical Leadership: Define and drive the technical vision for Growth engineering, ensuring systems are scalable, secure, and reliable. Remain hands-on by reviewing code, contributing to architecture, and solving high-impact technical challenges. Lead by example in applying engineering best practices, experimentation, and data-driven decision-making.
Team Leadership: Lead and grow multiple engineering pods across areas such as user identity, marketing technology, CRM, campaign optimization, cross-device experience, and web growth. Mentor engineers and managers, fostering a culture of ownership, learning, and high performance. Scale and structure the organization to meet evolving business needs while maintaining velocity and quality.
Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with Product, Data Science, and Design leaders to define and execute the Growth roadmap. Collaborate with marketing, international, and other engineering teams to accelerate global expansion. Ensure alignment across pods while empowering autonomy for rapid execution.
Execution & Impact: Drive key growth outcomes such as TVT, registration rate, conversion, and retention. Establish metrics and operational excellence in incident response, experimentation, and release velocity. Balance long-term platform investments with short-term growth opportunities.
Core Qualifications (Must-Haves)
8+ years of engineering experience, including 4+ years in engineering leadership (managing managers and ICs).
Proven experience building and scaling consumer-facing systems with millions of users.
Strong technical depth - comfortable with backend services, web/OTT/mobile systems, and complex data analysis.
Hands-on coder/architect with recent practical contributions to production systems.
Excellent people leadership skills with a track record of hiring, developing, and retaining top talent.
Strong collaboration and communication skills, able to influence at all levels of the organization.
Preferred Qualifications (Nice-to-Haves)
Experience with A/B testing platforms, experimentation frameworks, and causal inference methods.
Familiarity with marketing technology (MarTech) stacks such as campaign management, CRM, customer data platforms, and attribution systems.
Background in identity systems (SSO, OAuth, cross-device identity stitching, privacy/consent management).
Experience optimizing web growth and cross-device experiences across mobile, web, and CTV.
Track record of launching products or growth initiatives in international markets.
Deep technical expertise in distributed systems, large-scale backend services, or full-stack web development.
The AI Mandate: Leading an AI-Driven Reliability Practice This role extends growth engineering by embedding AI into the growth strategy to enable smarter execution, faster delivery, and automation at scale while ensuring responsible use. This includes:
Accelerating Developer Velocity with AI Tools : Promote responsible adoption of AI-assisted coding and automation tools to help engineers build faster with high quality.
Operational Efficiency with AI Automation : Apply AI to streamline campaign optimization, CRM workflows, and identity management, reducing manual work and improving performance.
Fostering AI Literacy : Build a team culture that understands opportunities and risks of AI-driven systems. Ensure engineers can evaluate, debug, and trust AI recommendations, keeping humans in control of critical decisions.
Note: This role may include travel and a hybrid work arrangement as applicable.
