You will work with the Head of Engineering, a team of engineers, and our clinical teams to build a world-class platform that enables patients and doctors to use whole-genome sequencing data and interpretation to improve human health. Job Description The Director of Engineering will be responsible for: Working with the Head of Engineering, project manager, and other stakeholders within MyOme to plan projects, identify dependencies, and establish timelines. Overseeing day-to-day execution of projects and providing technical expertise to guide them. Managing the backend engineering teams, including hiring, evaluating, mentoring, and dismissing employees. Implementing, maintaining, monitoring, upgrading, and documenting systems appropriate for a regulated environment. Working with internal and external systems managers to ensure the security and general availability of systems. Overseeing integrations with external partners. Expected breakdown of time: 60% management, 30% technical leadership, 10% hands-on coding Skills And Experience The ideal candidate will have: No specific degree or field prerequisite. If you can do the work well and humbly, we want to talk with you. Exceptional experience with Python, Django, REST APIs, Linux, system design, and AWS. Strong experience with modern software development, unit testing, CI/CD, devops, logging, and monitoring. Familiarity with React, Terraform, Kubernetes, networking, and Docker is valuable. Experience scaling up software engineering teams. Ability to thrive in a nimble start-up environment with changing priorities. Know the difference between scrappy one-off solutions and production-grade solutions and when each is appropriate to be used. Excellent communication and organizational skills; familiarity with non-dogmatic agile development practices.
