This role requires frequent in-office presence, with up to four days per week at our San Francisco office, to support collaboration and learning.
The Legal Department provides legal support across Dolby, manages IP-centric businesses, and leads government relations.
We are seeking an experienced IP attorney or licensing executive to manage strategic customer accounts in the Americas, with significant experience in international technology or patent licensing, and a track record of exceeding goals. The role involves developing strategies to expand Dolby’s patent licensing programs and licensee base.
Ideal candidates are collaborative, with strong communication and analytical skills. Experience with Excel and Salesforce is a plus. Background in engineering, technology, or computer science, and familiarity with standards-essential patents and patent pools are highly valued.
This position is based in San Francisco and reports to the Senior Director of Patent Licensing.
Responsibilities
Lead strategic customer accounts in the Americas, maintaining relationships with key decision-makers.
Develop and execute strategies to grow Dolby’s patent licensing programs and licensee base.
Negotiate patent license agreements.
Collaborate with litigation teams on enforcement actions.
Work with internal stakeholders in technical, legal, and business areas.
Assist in financial forecasting and meet/exceed financial targets.
Ensure CRM systems are updated with licensing discussions.
Provide support related to patents, licensing, and IP as needed.

Skills and Education
Proven ability to build and maintain external business relationships.
8+ years of experience as an IP licensing attorney or licensing executive.
Technical and legal understanding of patents and license agreements.
Knowledge of negotiation and global litigation strategies.
Willingness to travel as needed.
Preferred Qualifications
Juris Doctor (JD) and active membership in a state bar.
Experience in global IP licensing and international litigation.
Background in multinational organizations.
Experience with standards bodies, essential patents, and patent pools.
Education or experience in engineering, technology, or computer science.
The salary range for this full-time position in San Francisco is $225,000 - $318,000, plus bonus, benefits, and possibly equity. Salary specifics will be discussed during the hiring process.
