Director, Payroll

Chime is looking for a hands-on Director of Payroll who will own the entire payroll process, including payroll accounting and taxation for stock options, RSU, ESPP, and partner closely with the People Team to ensure that processes and roles are aligned to support the company’s rapid growth. This person will also serve as a point of contact for all internal and external payroll inquiries.

The base salary offered for this role and level of experience will begin at $168,570.00 and up to $238,900.00. Full-time employees are also eligible for a bonus, competitive equity package, and benefits. The actual base salary offered may be higher, depending on location, skills, qualifications, and experience.

In this role, you can expect to

  • Full-cycle processing of US and Canadian payroll on a semi-monthly basis for 1400+ employees, including processing stock options, RSU and ESPP related income.
  • Manages payroll liabilities by ensuring accuracy of employee federal, state, and local income taxes, social security taxes and employer’s social security, unemployment taxes.
  • Implement, maintain, and review payroll processing systems to ensure timely and accurate processing of payroll transactions including salaries, 401(k) deductions, benefits, taxes and other deductions.
  • Maintains and audits accuracy of timesheet approvals and maintenance for non-exempt employees. Communicates with employees and managers with respect to internal systems, timesheet reporting and submission, and wage and tax statements as necessary.
  • Manages tax and benefits compliance and reporting with all Federal, State, and Local payroll compliance, including tax withholding, and garnishments.
  • Performs accounting month-end close including journal entries and reconciliations of related payroll and benefits accounts.
  • Identify recommendations to scale processes to enhance payroll operational efficiency including the design and implementation of internal controls and maintain payroll policies and procedures.

To thrive in this role, you have

  • Experience around global payroll and multi-state US payroll with both exempt and non-exempt employees.
  • Working knowledge of multi-state payroll processing best practices and procedures, relevant payroll-related standards, regulations, and other related requirements to process payroll timely and accurately.
  • Strong analytical, communication (written and verbal) skills and attention to detail.
  • Multi-tasking and time management skills, and an ability to stay organized in a fast-paced environment.
  • Adaptability, flexibility, and comfort with a changing work environment.
  • A BA degree in Accounting or Finance; CPP certification is a strong plus.
  • 12+ years of payroll and benefits experience that includes a thorough understanding of administration and regulatory requirements of payroll processing and benefit plans.
