**Essential Functions:**1.) Intake* Conduct initial intake with individuals to clarify the issues of concern and ensure that students, faculty and staff have access to appropriate supportive measures and/or community resources; provide an overview of the potential application of University policies administered by ETIX; and discuss potential options. Working closely with the Director of Equity and Deputy Title IX Coordinator, assist in the preparation of initial assessment recommendations about each matter to the AVP and facilitate frontend stages of a case to investigation or case closure.* Ensure that all necessary documentation regarding a matter is updated and retained in the case management system, coordinating closely with the Director of Equity & Deputy Title IX Coordinator and the ETIX Investigators regarding the status of cases and case record management.* Meet regularly with the Director of Equity & Deputy Title IX Coordinator to review intakes and requests for grievance processes, as well as initiating and administering backend stages of cases.* Assist the Director of Equity and Deputy Title IX Coordinator in development and ongoing updating of internal operating procedures.* Development and ongoing updating of templates for intake, supportive measures, pregnancy modifications, and grievance process communications.2.) Coordination of Hearings, Sanctioning, and Appeals* Working closely with the Director for Equity and Deputy Title IX Coordinator, coordinate the scheduling of complainants, respondents, witnesses and the decision-makers for each hearing and pre-hearing meetings, and the handling of all logistics related to technology for virtual hearings and the functioning of hearings.* Provide administrative support throughout hearings, ensuring the smooth running of the hearings and serving as the point of contact throughout the hearing process. Meet with parties and decision-makers to review logistics prior to the start of the hearing. Create and update as needed, checklist to ensure smooth running of hearing and that all individuals participating in the hearing have required documents and understand the parameters of the hearing and timeline. Similarly, facilitate the Sanctioning and Appeals stages of grievance processes when applicable, including the coordination and scheduling of sanctioning panels, communicating with and supporting campus officials filling sanctioning and appeals process roles, tracking stage timelines, ensuring necessary documentation is preserved in the case management system, and issuing sanctioning and appeal decisions to parties.4.) Other duties as Assigned**Competencies:*** Serving Customers.* Prioritizing and Organizing.* Making Accurate Judgments and Decisions.* Championing Customer Needs.* Developing Plans.* Communicating Effectively, Verbal and Written.**Position Type/Expected Hours of Work:*** Full-time.* 35 hours per week.* Hybrid work modality.**Salary Range:*** $70,000 - $80,000 annually.**Required Education and Experience:*** Bachelor’s degree plus at least 3 years of related experience.* Case management experience in a legal environment, higher education or a related field.* Demonstrated ability work with highly sensitive topics and with individual experiencing high-stress situations in a professional, confidential and consistent manner.* Ability to work effectively and collegially with a small team in an office with a high volume of work.**Preferred Education and Experience:*** Master’s degree plus at least 1 year of case management experience.* 3-5 years of relevant experience.* Experience and/or knowledge of discrimination laws.* Experience and/or knowledge of Title IX.* Database management experience.**Travel Required:*** On campus or with-in the Washington, DC area.**Additional Eligibility Qualifications:*** Experience and/or knowledge of discrimination laws.* Experience and/or knowledge of Title IX, particularly as it pertains to sex-based harassment, including sexual violence.* Experience handling confidential information with tact, discretion, and sensitivity.* Experience working in higher education preferred.* Strong organizational skills.* Cross-cultural competency.* Must be comfortable with technology, including maintaining content in databases.* Excellent interpersonal skills.**Other Duties:*** Please note this job description is not designed to cover or contain a comprehensive listing of activities, duties or responsibilities that are required of the employee for this job. Working closely with the entire Equity and Title IX team, the ETIX Case Manager creates and updates reporting forms, workflows, checklists, forms, and all tools available to assist staff in building and maintaining accurate and complete case records.* Assisting in developing mechanisms within the case management system for capturing the type of data needed.* Problem solving case management system issues internally and serving as the liaison with System representatives.* Responsible for gaining advanced knowledge of the systems functions and operations on an ongoing basis.* Hiring offers for this position are contingent on successful completion of a background check.* Employees in staff positions at American University must deliver their services to the university from either the District of Columbia, Maryland, or Virginia, or perform work on-site at the university.* Please note this job announcement is not designed to cover or contain a comprehensive listing of activities, duties or responsibilities that are required of the employee for this job.
