The Role: Connectivity plays a pivotal role in using and advancing technology to offer unparalleled customer experience and develop revenue-generating streams, while acting as a cornerstone to offer safety-critical, hands-free driving solutions in line with General Motor’s strong safety culture. We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Connectivity Module Hardware Engineer with a strong background in 5G, BT, Wi-Fi, BLE, UWB, and NFC technologies. The ideal candidate will have 5+ years of management experience in hardware development, as well as hands-on experience in hardware design, including system architecture, schematic capture, thermal analysis, and layout related to power circuitry, PCB flooring plan, RF front end, etc., to develop best-in-class Connectivity systems for General Motor’s vehicles. The Connectivity Module Hardware Engineering Manager will be responsible for managing a small team and leading the design, development, validation, and issue resolution of hardware components and systems that support Connectivity technologies across all GM vehicles and architectures. This role involves close collaboration with cross-functional teams, including vehicle integration, product managers, and system engineers, to create secure and reliable Connectivity solutions and help define future technology roadmaps and resolve issues during development and production. What You’ll do: Design, develop, and test Connectivity hardware systems, including microcontrollers, sensors, wireless communication modules (5G, BT, Wi-Fi, BLE, NFC, UWB), and power management circuits, ensuring module performance and signal integrity. Create detailed system architectures, schematics, layouts, and perform thermal analysis to meet performance requirements. Collaborate with vehicle integration and packaging teams to integrate digital key hardware into the vehicle electrical architecture, considering design constraints and tradeoffs. Contribute to the development of Sanity and Deep Dive Test Plans at component and vehicle levels. Develop and validate prototypes, conduct rigorous testing, and ensure hardware meets functional, signal integrity, and performance requirements. Provide troubleshooting support for hardware issues, perform root-cause analysis, and implement corrective actions. Work with internal teams to ensure timely delivery for design releases, vehicle integration, DFMEAs, testing, defect resolution, and product launches. Stay updated with the latest advancements in Connectivity technology and hardware design, and recommend process and product improvements. Support sourcing activities and guide contract manufacturers throughout development. Ensure all hardware designs comply with relevant industry standards (e.g., ISO/IEC, CE, FCC) and regulatory requirements. Report project status, challenges, and escalate issues to senior leadership.
