Overview Tax Controversy Senior — EY, National Tax Department (NTD). Our team serves high-profile national and multinational clients with domestic and international transactional tax planning and advisory services. We aim to manage client tax obligations responsibly and proactively to make a difference. The opportunity involves working within EY’s global tax controversy network to help prevent, manage, and resolve tax controversies.
Responsibilities Assist in resolving Client IRS account issues, including:
Drafting Forms 2848 and 8821 for Client signature
Reviewing IRS notices, tax returns, and transcripts to identify issues on the account
Contact IRS as a 2848 or 8821 representative to request collection holds, first-time abatements, and to advocate for resolution of issues
Draft correspondence to the IRS (e.g., Reasonable Cause penalty abatements, Form 843, Claim for Refund and Abatement, Form 12153, Request for CDP or Hearing, Form 3911, Taxpayer Statement Regarding Refund)
Conduct tax research (Internal Revenue Code, CFR, Revenue Rulings, etc.) and assist with Client Representation and project management within an IRS examination
Contribute to dispute resolution including assisting before the IRS Exam and Appeals Divisions, penalty relief, abatement requests, and Alternative Dispute Resolution
Skills and Attributes for Success Research tax issues to develop effective tax resolution strategies
Translate complex data into client-ready insights and deliverables
Build long-term client relationships and tailor services to client needs
Communicate complex tax matters to non-tax professionals and clients
Qualifications Bachelor’s degree
Ability to obtain a CPA certification or licensed attorney designation
Experience in government or a professional tax organization
Strong analytical skills and attention to detail
Ability to adapt to work with internal and client teams
Willingness to travel as needed; able to operate in a balanced hybrid environment

What We Offer Comprehensive compensation and benefits; base salary ranges vary by location (e.g., $81,500–$134,600 in most locations; higher ranges in NYC Metro, WA, CA). Total Rewards include medical/dental, pension and 401(k), and paid time off.
