Head of Engineering, AMER
New Today
This position is posted by Jobgether on behalf of Ashby. We are currently looking for a Head of Engineering, AMER in California (USA), Colorado (USA), Georgia (USA), Illinois (USA), or Washington (USA).
Take the lead in shaping a high-impact, high-autonomy engineering culture across a rapidly growing, remote-first product company. In this role, you’ll drive the expansion of a talented, mission-driven team across the Americas, scaling from 20 to 40 engineers while preserving engineering excellence and velocity. You’ll partner closely with leadership to define and evolve core processes, own critical hiring decisions, and guide the development of cutting-edge internal tooling and intelligent product features. This is a rare opportunity to scale a modern engineering organization that prioritizes ownership, minimal process, and quality software over industry norms.
Accountabilities:
Lead, mentor, and grow the engineering team across the Americas, including managers and ICs across diverse specialties such as product, infrastructure, and design engineering.
Partner with leadership to scale engineering culture, processes, and strategy in alignment with company growth and product vision.
Drive hiring efforts, focusing on experienced and autonomous engineers who thrive in a high-ownership environment.
Collaborate cross-functionally to define and implement engineering-led product development practices — including engineers writing specs, driving UX, and owning end-to-end delivery.
Ensure an outstanding developer experience through continuous improvements to tooling, CI/CD, and core internal components.
Contribute to DEI efforts and foster a culture that supports engineers from underrepresented backgrounds.
Shape strategic engineering investments, such as building leverage-focused infrastructure and reusable components that accelerate the team’s impact.
Coach engineering leaders and contribute to succession planning, performance management, and leadership development.
Set the tone for collaboration, feedback, and technical excellence across teams and time zones.
Significant experience leading and scaling engineering teams, including managing engineering managers and owning department-level decisions.
A strong foundation as an individual contributor — ideally a Staff or Principal Engineer — with continued passion for technology and hands-on understanding.
Proven ability to establish engineering culture, process, and hiring frameworks from the ground up.
Demonstrated success operating in high-autonomy, low-process environments where engineers lead projects end-to-end.
Comfort operating in ambiguity, with the ability to architect scalable systems (both technical and organizational).
Experience in remote-first environments and a collaborative, written-first communication style.
Commitment to building diverse and inclusive teams, with tangible examples of inclusive leadership.
Optimism that engineering excellence can be maintained at scale without reverting to legacy processes.
Salary Range (US): $255K–$320K depending on location and experience, plus performance bonus and equity.
Canadian Compensation: CA$280K–CA$320K with equity and bonus opportunities.
Equity: Generous stock options with a 10-year exercise window.
Health Coverage:
100% coverage of top-tier health insurance (US) for you and dependents.
Supplemental high-quality health insurance (Canada and other locations), fully covered.
Time Off: Unlimited PTO with a strong culture of work-life balance.
Parental Leave: Minimum of 12 weeks fully paid, with regional adjustments as needed.
Remote-First Setup: Generous equipment and furniture budget to create your ideal workspace.
Learning & Development: $100/month learning stipend; conferences and major expenses with manager approval.
In-Person Team Retreats: Department and company-wide offsites twice per year.
