About the Role We are looking for an experienced infrastructure leader to own and scale the technical foundation that powers Metronome's platform. As Head of Infrastructure, you'll lead a growing team of ~15 engineers responsible for the real-time systems that process billions of events, millions of invoices and enable some of the world's most innovative companies to build their operations on Metronome.
This role combines deep technical expertise with organizational leadership, owning the reliability, scalability, and operational excellence of our infrastructure layer. You'll be responsible for ensuring our platform can handle exponential customer growth while maintaining the enterprise-grade reliability that our customers depend on for their critical business operations.
What You'll Do Infrastructure Leadership and Strategy
Lead and grow a team of 15+ infrastructure engineers, managing both engineering managers and senior individual contributors while providing mentorship, career development, and technical guidance across multiple teams
Build and scale the infrastructure organization structure, defining team responsibilities, establishing clear ownership boundaries, and ensuring effective coordination between infrastructure teams and product engineering groups
Own the technical roadmap for Metronome's infrastructure layer as we scale to support larger scale and evolve from commodity solutions to specialized streaming infrastructure
Partner with engineering leadership to balance infrastructure investments with product development needs, serving as an enabler for product engineering teams
Platform Reliability and Operations
Own the end-to-end reliability and performance of real-time systems that process billions of events and millions of invoices with enterprise-grade uptime, latency and correctness requirements
Maintain and enhance comprehensive monitoring, alerting, and observability across all infrastructure services
Lead incident response and post-mortem processes, ensuring systematic improvements to prevent recurrence and drive operational excellence practices
Scaling and Team Development
Architect infrastructure solutions that support exponential customer growth and increasingly complex technical requirements
Foster a culture of operational excellence where engineers take ownership of system reliability and customer experience
Drive hiring and team scaling as infrastructure demands grow with business expansion

Shape infrastructure excellence: Influence how modern billing infrastructure is built and operated, with autonomy to implement cutting-edge approaches
Qualifications 8+ years of infrastructure engineering experience including managing engineering managers and driving cross-organizational initiatives
Track record building and scaling engineering teams including hiring, mentoring, and creating processes that support rapid organizational growth
Proven track record scaling critical infrastructure at high-growth companies
Deep expertise in modern infrastructure technologies including streaming data platforms, distributed systems architecture, cloud platforms, observability stacks, and infrastructure-as-code
Strong operational excellence background including SLI/SLO frameworks, incident management, capacity planning, and proactive monitoring systems
Experience partnering with product engineering teams as an enabler, balancing infrastructure needs with product velocity and business requirements
Excellent communication and technical judgment with experience presenting technical concepts to stakeholders and deep understanding of how infrastructure decisions impact performance, productivity, and business outcomes
Compensation The estimated base salary range for this role is $220,000 - 275,000. In addition to your base salary, Metronome offers a competitive total rewards package, including but not limited to, market-benched equity, sales incentive pay (for eligible roles), comprehensive health benefits, and other benefits listed below.
The actual base salary will vary based on factors including market value, individual qualifications objectively assessed during the interview process, and previous experience. The listed range above should serve as a guideline and may be modified at any time.
We believe that compensation reflects the expected impact you will have at the company, relative to the market value of your role. We also conduct an annual pay audit to ensure pay is fair, indexed to market value, and that pay takes into account continued performance at Metronome.
