No Starch Press, the iconic independent publisher behind bestsellers like Hacking: The Art of Exploitation , Practical Malware Analysis , and Python Crash Course, is hiring a Head of Sales.
This is a high-impact leadership role reporting directly to the CEO. You’ll own and scale our global sales strategy—across trade, academic, direct, and licensing channels—and play a key role in shaping the future of a mission-driven publisher with a cult following in the tech world.
What You’ll Own:
Sales strategy across retail, academic, direct, and international channels
Distributor (Penguin Random House) and key account relationship management
Development of new B2B, licensing, and course adoption revenue streams
Sales forecasting, CRM pipeline development, and performance reporting
Cross-functional alignment with editorial and marketing to time launches and campaigns
What We’re Looking For:
8–15+ years of experience in publishing, educational media, or technical/B2B sales
Proven record of growing revenue and managing channel sales or distribution
Experience selling to institutions, educators, or technical audiences (developers, engineers, etc.)
Analytical mindset with strong communication and closing skills
Self-starter comfortable with both strategy and execution
Bonus Points For:
Existing contacts in academia, tech, or international distribution
Familiarity with licensing, course adoption, or institutional deals
Passion for quality content, hacker culture, or open technical education
