Spire's Constellation Operations group develops interfaces used by our customers to design, test, deploy, and operate space-based software applications. These applications may run on standard Spire hardware or on hosted payloads designed by us or our customers. This role reports directly to the CTO. As the Head of Software Engineering and Operations, you'll drive the development and execution of the roadmap across: Application Services: application development, testing, deployment, tasking, and operations Satellite Manufacturing and SRE-style Operations Infrastructure for cloud and big data Your duties include ensuring engineering excellence and delivery across these critical domains. You will collaborate with technical leads, the Chief Software Engineer, and program managers to develop elegant solutions for customer needs, managing teams in Europe and the US. You will oversee the implementation of the technical vision, supporting ideation, creation, and curation of technical proposals aligned with Spire's culture. Basic qualifications: 5 years of experience in engineering as an individual contributor 5 years leading engineering teams Professional experience with at least one interpreted programming language Professional experience with at least one compiled programming language Preferred qualifications: Excellent communication skills at all levels, from technical staff to C-level executives Experience developing software for resource-constrained environments like embedded ARM devices Proficiency in Python and Rust Experience managing API-based product teams Knowledge of Kubernetes, CI/CD pipelines, and operational debugging Deep understanding of API design, caching, resiliency, and scalability Strong skills in relational and non-relational databases Spire operates a hybrid work model, requiring a minimum of three days per week in the office. Access to US export-controlled software or technology may be necessary.
