Overview
We are seeking a hands-on Interim CFO to lead the finance function of a $100M+ government contracting business undergoing transformation under private equity ownership. This role stabilizes and strengthens financial operations with a focus on accounting rigor, compliance, and strategic finance leadership.
Key Responsibilities
- Financial Leadership & Strategy: Serve as the senior-most finance executive, reporting directly to the CEO and PE sponsor. Partner with executive leadership and founders to align financial strategy with growth objectives. Provide clear, actionable insights to support decision-making and value creation.
- Accounting & Controls: Oversee all accounting operations, ensuring GAAP compliance and audit readiness. Strengthen internal controls and financial reporting processes. Lead month-end close, revenue recognition, and government contract accounting (including EACs and indirect rate structures).
- Government Contracting Expertise: Ensure compliance with FAR, DFARS, CAS, and other federal regulations. Support DCAA audit preparation and indirect rate submissions. Advise on contract pricing, billing, and cost allocation strategies. Mentor and upskill the Controller and FP&A team. Provide interim leadership while evaluating long-term team structure and succession planning. Collaborate with HR and PE sponsor on finance talent strategy.
- PE Sponsor Engagement: Deliver timely and accurate financial reporting to the private equity sponsor. Support board-level presentations and investor communications. Drive initiatives aligned with the sponsor's value creation plan.
Qualifications
- CPA required; strong technical accounting background.
- 15+ years of progressive finance experience, including CFO or senior finance leadership roles.
- Prior experience in government contracting is essential.
- Familiarity with private equity environments and sponsor expectations.
- Proven ability to lead through change and build scalable finance infrastructure.
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to navigate founder dynamics.
Preferred Attributes
- Experience with Deltek Costpoint or similar ERP systems.
- Prior interim CFO experience.
- Intellectual curiosity and a bias for action.
- Ability to work independently in a virtual environment.
- This is a remote role however candidates located in the Eastern time zone are preferred.
- Target Compensation $8K-$10K per week.

Duration: 6-12 months. Location: Remote / Virtual HQ. Company Type: Private Equity-Backed Government Contractor. Salary is determined by skills and experience; discretionary bonuses may apply.
