For this role, we are looking for a technical leader (individual contributor) to drive customer-facing upsell motions and to enhance a model-driven recommendation platform that personalizes content and interactions for our customers. Responsibilities Build and deploy models and data products to support internal decision-making, delight customers, and enhance AI solutions. Drive research, gather requirements from stakeholders, develop models, deploy with engineering, and monitor performance over time. Partner with Engineering, Design, Product, Sales, and Customer Success to solve cross-functional problems. Envision and contribute to a robust ML/AI-focused code base and integrate best practices into day-to-day operations. Learn and iterate to test opportunities that improve customer experiences and internal optimization frameworks. Share knowledge, mentor others, and explore new ways to drive impact within and outside of Gusto. Qualifications 7+ years of experience building sophisticated and scaled data products with deep ML knowledge. This could be an MS/PhD in a quantitative field with at least 4 years in a business setting, or a BS/Data Science Bootcamp graduate with at least 7 years in a business setting. Experience developing and deploying modeling solutions in production using Python, including propensity scoring, recommendation engines, and forecasting. Growth-oriented product development experience is a plus. Strong programming skills across the ML lifecycle, from analysis and prototyping to monitoring and retraining. Excellent communication skills to convey findings to non-technical stakeholders. PhD or Masters in a quantitative field is a plus. Experience leveraging customer feedback, chat transcripts, and LLMs as inputs and outputs is a plus. Compensation Cash compensation for this role is targeted at: $165–$205k in Denver $200–$250k in San Francisco, New York, and Seattle $185k–$225k CAD in Toronto Final offer amounts depend on candidate experience and may vary from the ranges listed above. Location and Office Expectations Gusto has physical office spaces in Denver, San Francisco, and New York City. Employees based in these locations are expected to work from the office 2–3 days per week (or more depending on role). The same office expectations apply to Symmetry, Gusto’s subsidiary.
