Cognizant is a large IT consulting firm that leverages modern technologies to transform business operations. This role focuses on keeping Maps Data current and reflective of real-world changes, handling issues submitted by end users of Maps or test results of location queries via Web Search or Maps interface. The Mapping Transit City Expert provides country-specific transit expertise and is responsible for developing and maintaining transit data pipelines and establishing ground truth in the city/country of their work. This role also serves as the consultant of the country for transit/micro-mobility projects. This is a remote role for candidates living in the San Francisco Bay area only .
Responsibilities Communicate with internal stakeholder teams and external companies to achieve project goals
Provide input to create city/country specific policy aligned with existing transit policies; apply mapping policies to the specific city/country and provide insights into local transit/traffic laws, landmarks, and key mapping features
Consult on urban transit systems and multi-modal mobility (including micro-mobility and walking)
Review mapping operations issues for quality checks related to specific city/countries of expertise
Serve as a point of contact for mapping operations country-specific questions
Document and analyze information needs for product improvement and facilitate delivering appropriate solutions
Perform market comparison analyses of features, data or issues related to local transit
Proactively suggest improvements to the data management platform and identify transit user expectations and data gaps to inform the product team
Provide inputs to product/partnership teams regarding local transportation modes and growth opportunities
Act as a Country/Regional Transit point of contact for internal and external teams
Understand requests’ background, priority and impact and communicate effectively with program managers/stakeholders on asks, timelines and priorities
Data Management Data Acquisition & Quality: Create city-level transit data modeling policies based on market needs and local regulations
Leverage familiarity with local/regional urban transit systems to identify patterns and data gaps; adjust data models to improve issues
Edit transit data as needed if static data is inaccurate
Identify transit user expectations, critical user journeys, and data gaps; provide insights to improve the product
Assist Program Managers in communicating with partners/providers about required data fixes
Data evaluation and GTFS mapping for prioritized cities to identify needs for internal adapters and standardization
Data Reliability: Gain in-depth knowledge of data, processes, tools and policy; translate feedback and troubleshoot problems
Field escalations of complex data issues and create bugs for external teams as needed
Conduct in-city field research to determine ground truth of transit issues
Data Freshness: Validate quality of new and updated data in the data management platform
Manage city-specific data pipelines through the transit data management platform, including updating pipelines
Develop outages and alerts capabilities and monitor effectively
Coordinate with internal teams to ensure correct political formatting for the country
On-call support during non-working hours and weekends in case of data outages
Qualifications At least a Bachelor's degree
1 - 3 years of related experience
Good communication skills (read, write and speak) in English and native local language
Basic data analytics and technical writing skills
Deep knowledge of San Francisco transit/traffic network and urban planning
Knowledge of transit-specific data formats is an added advantage (GTFS)
Basic/good knowledge of GIS mapping tools and programming skills (Java, C#, C++, Python) is an added advantage
Comfortable with a rapidly changing environment
Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
Compensation & Benefits Hourly rate or annual compensation: The annual salary for this position is between $60,000 - $86,000 depending on experience and other qualifications. This position is eligible for Cognizant’s discretionary annual incentive program, based on performance and subject to applicable plans.
