In partnership with the chapter Executive Director, chapter staff, volunteers, and other stakeholders, the Market Director serves as the primary external affairs officer while building strategic relationships with constituents and donors on behalf of Breakthrough T1D, expanding our reach to support maximum market penetration in Central and West Central Ohio. The Market Director ensures increased efficiency, effectively utilizing core program metrics and key indicators to drive year over year trends, goal attainment and maximum performance impact.
This is a remote position currently with the possibility of becoming hybrid which will be located in the Upper Arlington/Columbus market. Ideal candidate must reside within this market.
Key Responsibilities Fundraising
Execute strategic revenue plans to drive profitable, diversified, and sustainable year-over-year growth in the market.
Assume responsibility for a portfolio of business within the market, including personal and chapter revenue goals.
Drive new levels of performance in Peer 2 Peer, Signature Events, individual giving, and constituent relationship management.
Implement annual strategy for corporate engagement, major giving, institutional giving, and stewardship at the market level, in collaboration with national and chapter partners. Identify and develop new business with existing donors and new prospects.
Volunteer Management
Engage and leverage the Community Board, ensuring ongoing development of a strong and impactful board.
Guide the board nominating process and support attracting and retaining high-impact board members.
Ensure meaningful engagement of volunteers at all levels, fostering good relationships between staff and volunteer leadership.
Partner with volunteer leadership to solicit funding and support from individuals, corporations, foundations, and other sources.
Lead Central Ohio board meetings, communicating strategic plans, budgets, needs, and asks confidently and clearly.
Awareness
Lead efforts to cultivate relationships with constituents, media, and healthcare partners to enhance brand awareness and advance mission priorities.
Promote engagement opportunities in research, advocacy, and clinical trials throughout the community.
Develop and grow Community Engagement programs to acquire and activate new families.
Collaborate with volunteer leaders to advance organizational priorities.
Administration and Management
Lead, manage, and develop staff to build a cohesive team.
Manage budgets and maintain fiscal records, ensuring timely financial reporting.
Ensure staff and volunteers adhere to policies and compliance requirements.
Represent Breakthrough T1D professionally, maintaining organizational standards and integrity.
Participate as a member of the Chapter Executive Team, providing leadership and operational direction.
Requirements
7-10 years of professional fundraising experience, including 5-7 years in a supervisory role, with a college degree or equivalent.
Successful track record in fundraising, especially in large-scale events and major gifts ($10,000+), with skills in donor cultivation and stewardship.
Experience working with active volunteer leaders and networks.
High energy, integrity, empathy, and strong emotional intelligence; excellent listening, analytical, and critical thinking skills.
Ability to inspire and lead teams, develop relationships, and communicate complex information clearly.
Proficiency in CRM tools (e.g., Salesforce) and MS Office.
Effective time management skills, ability to meet deadlines, and willingness to travel locally and regionally.
Knowledge of non-profit fiscal and strategic management is preferred; existing local network is a plus.
