MES are specific solutions in manufacturing automation that help scheduling, monitoring, and executing specific tasks on the shop floor. This includes, but not limited to, order management, quality management, data collection, support to operators and supervisors. Leveraging specific products data model and APIs, MES Developers are focused on different aspects of MES implementations, including: Primary Duties & Responsibilities: Design: Supporting project/program leads in the designing the best solution given business, functional and technical requirements (typically defined in the Requirement Specification – URS) possibly leveraging Object Oriented Analysis (OOA) concepts Apply to the designed solution best practices like design patterns, and Object-Oriented Design concepts (OOD) Supporting project/program leads in the documenting the design specification document (e.g. Functional Design Specification) Help project leads in defining project tasks and their duration Execute analysis, design, development and testing tasks identified by project leads on time and with proper quality. This includes but not limited to: Coding best practices to increase code readability and maintainability Execute Unit Testing and possibly initial functional testing like GUI testing and Smoke testing on the developed functionality to avoid easy identifiable bugs percolating downstream Report to Service Directors on tasks advancement Capable of understanding and troubleshooting technical issues, related to software development, conflict in branches and releases, and engineering tasks. Apply project best practices and support changes that can streamline operations Knowledgeable of testing/validation processes, including building the validation tests (Test Specification/Validation Specification document). Work with the project lead in executing unit tests, regression tests, integration tests and functional tests Help in driving solution acceptance (execution of Functional Acceptance Test and Site Acceptance Test documentation) While specific job duties will vary depending on the type of team, general job responsibilities may include following project leads in meeting goals for the team; ensuring current applications are updated and align with the implementation of new applications and help analyzing end users' needs. Other tasks may include developing troubleshooting MES implementation logic/front end logic (e.g. integration with 3rd Party systems such as ERP and automation) and overall support of system modifications. MES Technical Architects can also help in identifying implementing risks working with the project leads. MES developers are also encouraged in identifying security/performance issues, potential weaknesses in applications and suggest possible solutions. Desired skills: Programming languages (C#, Java, C++, VBA/VBScript, Python) Knowledge of software release management on multiple environments (e.g. DEV, QA, PROD) including but not limited to handling of pool requests, merge operations, solution building, deployment, unit testing, regression testing Experience with Team Foundation Server and/or Jira is strongly recommended Nice to have: Siemens MES solutions such as:, Siemens Opcenter, Camstar, XFP/SIMATIC IT solutions MES interface with 3rd party systems like automation systems (e.g. DeltaV, Siemens PCS7, Siemens SIMATIC Batch, Rockwell PLCs/SCADA) Ability to work in team, even when the team is virtual and most of team members work remotely. Background in MES, manufacturing process of either Process or Discrete industries is also a nice to have. Strong communication skills and ability to help foster collaboration with other teams Depending on the project or program, MES developers can be involved functional discussions in front of our customers, who regards them as knowledgeable sources. Qualifications: Experience: Minimum 8+ years of experience in engineering and/or manufacturing processes for design and development of products. Ability to effectively communicate progress, status and issues to internal and external customers. Ability to obtain and meet Business goals and results Ability to work independently, as well as on a team.
