ERM seeks a motivated Principal Consultant, Capital Project Development / Permitting for our Austin and Dallas, Texas team. If you have significant consulting experience in the Diversified Energy Industry (i.e., traditional and/or renewable power sector, transmission and distribution, and/or oil and gas sector) and excel at building client relationships, managing projects and teams, and contributing subject matter expertise to permit large capital projects, this position is for you. ERM works closely with energy companies throughout their business and asset life cycles to help plan, develop, and operate both traditional and non-traditional assets. We are expanding our team to enhance our ability to create innovative solutions that deliver measurable business value for our clients. Accordingly, ERM seeks an experienced professional as a key client-facing energy sector subject matter expert, ideally with pre-existing client relationships and a proven record of winning work within the energy market.
This role involves providing technical and project management leadership in siting, permitting, and evaluating environmental impacts of energy projects, including oil and gas pipelines, low carbon development, solar, wind, energy storage, and transmission. Projects are often fast-paced, multi-faceted, and geographically diverse. The candidate must be capable of working independently and on teams, managing multiple priorities, and meeting deadlines. The role includes serving as a Project Manager on multidisciplinary projects with people management responsibilities and focusing on the commercial development of ERM’s business. There is potential for growth into partner-track or technical director roles, depending on experience and interest.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Develop opportunities within ERM by working with clients and existing account teams to expand business.
- Manage and perform multi-media permitting for capital development projects, emphasizing local, state, and federal permits, including compliance with agencies such as the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, FERC, and BOEM.
- Demonstrate strong analytical, writing, presentation, and impactful client communication skills.
- Build and maintain trusted relationships with clients and partners.
- Collaborate with ERM’s North America leadership and client teams to drive commercial growth aligned with the evolving energy landscape.
REQUIREMENTS
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in environmental science, engineering, or related field, or equivalent experience.
- 6+ years (10 preferred) in consulting or energy sector experience.
- NEPA expertise and FERC or other agency experience are a plus.
- Experience with ESHIA is a plus.
- Recognized technical expertise and reputation in the Gulf Coast region.
- Deep understanding of the Power and Oil & Gas sectors, with existing relationships to leverage for new business.
- Strong desire to develop commercially.
- Understanding of energy regulatory environment and key agencies.
- Proven ability to deliver annual sales and manage projects effectively.
- Leadership, project management skills, and experience mentoring team members.
- Enthusiasm, initiative, flexibility, and a growth mindset.
