PeopleFun is seeking a Principal Technical Artist to join our team and play a key role in shaping the visual and technical aspects of a new casual mobile game currently in early development. In this role, you will work closely with artists, engineers, and game designers to develop and implement efficient pipelines, visual effects, and tools that enhance the game's visual quality while maintaining optimal performance across mobile platforms with varying performance capabilities.
The ideal candidate combines a deep understanding of art and animation with strong tech art skills, helping bridge the gap between artistic vision and technical execution.
Key Responsibilities
- Collaborate with artists, engineers, and game designers to develop and implement art pipelines, shaders, tools, and workflows that support the creative vision of the game.
- Optimize art assets to ensure performance and memory efficiency across a variety of mobile devices.
- Create and implement shaders, particle effects, animations, and/or lighting that enhance the visual quality of the game.
- Work closely with the art team to ensure that assets adhere to technical specifications and project constraints.
- Spearhead tools to improve the efficiency of the art and animation pipeline.
- Debug and troubleshoot visual issues in the game, finding creative solutions to technical limitations.
- Stay up to date with the latest developments in mobile graphics, tools, and techniques, proactively incorporating best practices into the production process.
Required Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
- 7+ years of professional experience as a Tech Artist in the mobile gaming industry with demonstrated track record of technical expertise and artistic aptitude.
- Extensive professional experience operating in Unity and/or other commonly used, mobile game development engines.
- Proficiency in animation, shader development, visual effects, lighting, and rendering techniques.
- Possesses a deep understanding of optimizing art assets for mobile platforms, including memory management and performance profiling.
- Prior experience in developing tools and scripts for art pipelines using Python, C#, or similar languages.
- Solid understanding of 3D art, 2D art, animation, and UI design principles.
- Excellent problem-solving skills, with the ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, cross-functional team.
