Job Description: Parsons is seeking a talented Principal Tunnel Engineer to join our team in Washington-DC, New York City, Boston, or Detroit (hybrid work model).
This role involves working on tunnel, shaft, and support of excavation design for transportation, water, wastewater, and CSO projects both nationally and internationally.
Compensation will be determined based on experience and credentials. This is a hybrid remote role, allowing you to work from home 2-3 days per week.
What You'll Be Doing: Perform complex tunnel design tasks and deliver engineering work efficiently and accurately.
Conduct complex 2D and 3D structural analyses and prepare design calculations.
Perform soil-structure interaction (SSI) analyses for underground structures and support of excavation.
Conduct durability analyses and design mitigation measures for underground structures in severely corrosive environments.
Assess construction impacts and design mitigation measures.
Check design calculations performed by others in detail.
Develop structural details and construction plans using Microstation and AutoCAD in collaboration with drafters and designers.
Prepare geometric layouts, construction specifications, and material quantity calculations.
Commit to quality and continuous improvement through innovation, creative thinking, and better results.
Establish and maintain cooperative relationships with employees, clients, and stakeholders.
Required/Desired Skills: Minimum of 10 years of related underground structural design experience.
MS Degree in Civil Engineering with a focus on structural or geotechnical engineering; PhD preferred.
PE licensure is required.
Proficiency in modeling and designing underground structural systems using 2D and 3D finite element analyses (Plaxis, STAAD.Pro, SAP2000, etc.).
Working knowledge of design codes such as ACI, ASCE, AISC, ASTM, AWWA, etc.
Proficiency with MS Office, structural design and analysis software, AutoCAD, or Microstation.
Willingness to work in a team office environment.
Excellent verbal communication skills.
Strong aptitude for learning advanced design skills.
