Overview Senior Director, Product & Industry Marketing – Planet. Planet designs, builds, and operates the largest constellation of imaging satellites to deliver datasets via a cloud-based platform for commercial, environmental, and humanitarian use. This role leads the Product Marketing team and defines the go-to-market strategy for Planet's data and platform products and integrated solutions. You will oversee product marketers across product lines and industry marketers across civil government, defense and intelligence, and commercial sectors. This role translates complex technical capabilities into compelling value propositions for a global customer base and shapes Planet's market narrative, driving adoption and positioning Planet as a leader in Earth observation and geospatial intelligence. This is a full-time, hybrid role based in San Francisco, requiring in-office work 3 days per week.
Responsibilities Define, lead, and oversee the go-to-market strategy for Planet’s portfolio, including core medium resolution imagery, high-resolution tasking, hyperspectral data, and platform capabilities.
Develop cohesive messaging and positioning across product lines and industry verticals to maintain a unified, differentiated voice.
Create core narratives, sales enablement tools, website content, datasheets, demos, presentations, and case studies that clearly communicate Planet’s value.
Direct market research, competitive intelligence, and customer feedback initiatives to sharpen brand perception and highlight differentiators.
Foster deep understanding of customer challenges and use cases.
Serve as a strategic bridge between Product & Engineering and Commercial-facing teams to align on roadmaps, market needs, and sales enablement.
Recruit, mentor, and lead a high-performing team of Product Marketing Managers and Industry Marketing Managers.
What You Bring 10+ years of experience in product marketing leadership, with a significant portion in a Senior Director or equivalent role within a B2B SaaS, data, or geospatial technology company.
8+ years of supervisory and/or leadership experience.
Proven track record in building, leading, and scaling product marketing teams.
Ability to translate complex technical concepts into clear, compelling narratives and differentiated value propositions for diverse audiences, including government customers.
Advanced analytical acumen with experience using market insights, competitive analysis, and customer feedback to drive strategy.
Strong cross-functional influence across executive leadership, product, engineering, and commercial teams, often in matrixed environments.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to work independently across time zones.
What Makes You Stand Out Advanced understanding of Earth observation, geospatial data, or remote sensing technologies.
Familiarity with international markets, regulatory environments, and cultural nuances in the Defense & Intelligence sector.
Experience with cloud architectures, platform development, and APIs in data delivery contexts.

Compensation The US base salary range for this full-time position at the commencement of employment is listed below. This role may be eligible for discretionary short-term and long-term incentives (bonus and equity). The final salary range depends on experience, skills, and location. For the specific range in your location, talk with your recruiter. San Francisco Salary Range: $231,500—$289,400 USD
