(Senior) Director/Head of Infotainment Platform – Android Automotive/AAOS (all genders)

Location

Germany or US – hybrid/remote possible, international travel involved.

Responsibilities

  • You lead and scale diconium’s Android Automotive team to architect, design, and develop the application layer of a next-gen infotainment platform for a major OEM – delivering brand-defining apps and services. You combine business growth with high-level architecture leadership across AAOS, HMI, and backend – bridging executive stakeholders and engineering.
  • You build and lead a high-performing team that develops Android background services and in-car apps – including UX, UI and GUI – for a global automotive OEM.
  • You provide consulting and hands-on technical work on HMI, Android Automotive, and digital vehicle platforms, with a strong focus on brand-specific apps and the customer-facing layer such as Appstore, Navigation, Charging and Entertainment.
  • You collaborate closely with our US-based platform partners and manage international interfaces with confidence and clarity.
  • You define and evolve enterprise and software architectures within the OEM, always keeping scalability, reusability and brand-specific requirements in mind.
  • You drive technical design discussions and ensure seamless integration of new components into the existing OEM system landscape – primarily in Germany.

What You Bring

  • You have shipped infotainment software into production vehicles – this is a must.
  • You bring 10+ years of software development experience, including 5+ years in AAOS/HMI architecture and delivery.
  • You have credible technical depth across AAOS, HMI frameworks, and backend/cloud – and can translate between executives and engineers.
  • You are a strong communicator, manage stakeholders effectively, and bring strategic vision and technical leadership.
  • You are familiar with current industry standards – especially in Android Automotive development.

Tech Stack

  • Android Automotive: App Layer/Framework (Activities, Fragments, Compose UI); adapting apps to vehicle screens (Center Display, Cluster, HUD); input handling via touch, voice, steering wheel.
  • Android background services: JobScheduler, WorkManager, Foreground Services, component communication with Intents, AIDL, Binder.
  • Vehicle HAL interaction via system APIs for connectivity & data (Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, USB, networking).
  • Programming languages: Java and Kotlin, with C/C++ via NDK when needed.
