About The Team The Data Pipeline & API team is responsible for the Data APIs, Pipelines, and Integrations that power real-time movement of customer data and support trillions of requests each month. This role ensures these systems are robust, efficient, and aligned with a product strategy that emphasizes impact, growth, and long-term reliability. This includes data APIs (foundational to customer onboarding), data export APIs (feature parity and scaling needs), and integrations like warehouse connectors and cohort exports to reduce friction, drive adoption, and expand our partner ecosystem. We’re a fairly tenured team (average time at Mixpanel is 4 years). We work in structured 6-8 week long sprints with clear goals, complemented with prioritization input from proposals and centralized prioritization. We value simplicity, reduced operational overhead, and re-usable primitives. About The Role As an engineering manager, you would help scale the team’s impact with hiring, culture and focus. You’ll be responsible for streamlining execution and prioritization based on a clear understanding of our technical systems and business goals. Responsibilities Hiring and retaining diverse and talented engineers Mentoring engineers & growing future technical leaders Working cross-functionally to translate business goals into the team’s roadmap Nurturing engineering excellence via culture and process Providing meaningful input to technical designs based on an in‑depth understanding of our systems & services Ensuring data API and pipeline uptime and performance SLO/SLAs are met Working with customers to improve performance Were Looking For Someone Who Has Has prior experience building, maintaining & scaling reliable, high-volume distributed systems Can reason about ambiguous problems from first principles and propose creative solutions Has strong CS fundamentals (data structures, algorithms, distributed systems) Contributes to attracting and retaining engineers through technical leadership, collaboration, and enablement Has a track record of mentoring and growing engineers who work with you Bonus Points For Prior engineering management experience on teams that build and operate highly critical services Prior experience with database technologies, including their internal design and implementation Prior experience with multi-tenant systems focusing on reliability, performance, isolation and security Compensation The amount listed below is the total target cash compensation (TTCC) and includes base compensation and variable compensation in the form of a company bonus or commissions. Variable compensation type is determined by your role and level. In addition to the cash compensation provided, this position is eligible for equity consideration and other benefits including medical, vision, and dental insurance coverage. The range displayed represents the minimum and maximum TTCC for new hire salaries for the position across all US locations.
