Overview Senior Financial Analyst (SFA) provides post-award grants administration, accounting, and purchasing support. The SFA carries out specific fiscal and grant management functions, budget administration, financial management, and reports to the Finance Manager. The SFA interprets complex federal, private, and university policies and procedures and manages the most complex funding portfolios (federal, state, and private). The SFA serves as the liaison with Research Management Services (the pre-award office) to ensure proposals are created and submitted appropriately. The SFA is also responsible for approving lab orders in the BearBuy purchasing system and acting as MyExpense approver for reimbursements for their assigned labs. This position is hybrid – 2 days onsite, 3 days remote per week.
Responsibilities Provide post-award grants administration, accounting, and purchasing support, including post-award financial reports and payroll reconciliation.
Perform fiscal and grant management tasks, budget administration, and financial reporting under the direction of the Finance Manager.
Interpret and apply complex policies and procedures from federal, private, and university sources.
Manage the most complex funding portfolios (federal, state, and private).
Coordinate with Research Management Services to ensure proposals are properly created and submitted.
Approve lab orders for assigned labs within the BearBuy purchasing system and approve reimbursements in MyExpense for those labs.
Required Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in a related area and/or equivalent experience/training.
Minimum 3–5 years of relevant work experience.
Thorough understanding of research administration guidelines for Federal and non-Federal sponsors, preferably in a university environment.
Maintains current knowledge of compliance regulations in all areas of research administration.
Ability to manage a significant volume of transactions.
Ability to perform complex financial analysis and produce customized reporting.
Excellent attendance and reliability.
Demonstrated knowledge of generally accepted accounting, fiscal, and reporting principles.
Demonstrated competence in spreadsheet and database software for financial analysis and reporting.
Preferred Qualifications Knowledge of compliance requirements related to human/animal subjects in research, financial conflict of interest, biosafety, etc.
Familiarity with UCSF personnel and stipend policies.
Minimum 5 years of relevant experience in research administration or higher education.
