Overview Power Engineer - Team Lead — Brooklyn, NY Power Engineering • In office • Full-time What You’ll Achieve Perform and interpret bulk transmission and interconnection analysis using commercial power flow software to pinpoint the best places to connect to the grid Perform and review transmission planning, power flow, and stability studies using commercial tools (PSSE, TARA, PSLF, PSCAD, etc.) — guiding teammates on best practices and elevating the quality of all analyses Evaluate transmission system dynamics under high penetrations of renewables Develop reasonable and technically supported study assumptions using the best available queue and grid upgrades datasets Consider the technical and commercial viability of new generation and large load projects by forecasting upgrade costs Work closely with the product and engineering teams to develop software solutions that enhance power system analysis at scale Apply and expand your expertise in power systems and interconnection processes across different utilities and ISOs Act as the domain expert within Paces to shape internal methodologies and inform product development Generalize power system principles and utility processes into scalable software applications and proprietary datasets Requirements 5–10 years of experience in power system studies, transmission planning, or interconnection engineering at a consultant, developer, ISO/RTO, or utility Deep familiarity with generator interconnection modeling in at least one major ISO/RTO (e.g., PJM, MISO, ERCOT, CAISO, WECC) Proven ability to run and interpret power flow, stability, and upgrade cost studies; proficiency with tools like PSSE, TARA, PSLF, PSCAD Strong quantitative chops and an instinct for spotting flawed assumptions Experience mentoring or reviewing the work of junior engineers Comfortable being customer-facing, presenting results directly to external stakeholders Familiarity with scripting or automation (Python, MATLAB, etc.) to improve workflows About You Are a hands-on engineer who also loves raising the bar for those around you Enjoy stress-testing peers’ work and teaching others how to sharpen their craft Get a thrill out of presenting complex interconnection risks in plain English Default to action, curiosity, and building smarter workflows See AI as an opportunity to automate the grind so you can focus on the edge cases that really matter Bonus Points Previous experience at an ISO/RTO Contributions to ISO/RTO stakeholder groups or interconnection policy discussions Familiarity with grid-enhancing technologies (GETs), DER integration, or non-wires alternatives GIS/geospatial analytics applied to transmission or interconnection studies Strong scripting background (Python, MATLAB, or similar) Compensation and Benefits $185,000-$200,000 annual compensation Competitive equity compensation 401(k) match Health, dental and vision insurance Paid company holidays & PTO Hybrid work in the office in Williamsburg, Brooklyn ~3x per week About Paces If you’re a builder who wants to actively construct a more climate positive future, join us!
