We are seeking an experienced Sr. QA Engineer to lead black and gray box manual testing efforts for our MasterLock connected Lockout/Tagout (cLOTO) platforms. In this critical role, you will ensure the highest quality and reliability of our web and mobile applications (iOS/Android) as they interact with associated safety devices. Your responsibilities will include designing, developing, and executing comprehensive manual test plans and cases, validating safety-critical workflows, and ensuring compliance with OSHA standards. Collaborating closely with Product, UX, mobile, firmware, backend and automation QA teams, your meticulous approach will directly contribute to the safety and effectiveness of systems used in hazardous industrial environments, safeguarding users who rely on our solutions to isolate hazardous energy sources. Position Location : San Francisco, CA or North Olmsted, OH - Hybrid role Employment Type : Full-time Responsibilities Develop and implement comprehensive test plans for web and mobile applications (iOS/Android), prioritizing high-risk LOTO (LockOut/TagOut) workflows, and conduct QA engineering for native apps, backend systems, and firmware. Identify and create test workflows and scenarios based on product requirements, user stories and technical specifications, transforming them into structured and traceable test plans and test cases in TestRail. Execute thorough tests across various browsers (Chrome, Firefox, Edge, Safari) and devices (smartphones, tablets, desktops), covering functional, regression, exploratory, and usability testing, including validating interactions with BLE-enabled smart locks. Conduct scenario-based testing to simulate complete operational procedures to identify potential edge cases and safety concerns. Document defects in a bug tracking system (JIRA) and prioritize defect reports. Organize and drive bug scrub meetings with cross-functional teams for timely resolution. Collaborate with developers, product managers, and UX designers to prioritize bug fixes, review requirements and user stories, and ensure alignment and integration of QA activities. Communicate quality risks and test reports to stakeholders, provide insights during sprint planning and reviews, and actively participate in cross-functional meetings, advocating for quality throughout the software development lifecycle. Organize and provide training for remote testers, review daily testing reports, plan tester/device allocations, and provide testing strategy and priorities while offering hands-on testing support for project milestones and updates. Foster collaboration with cross-functional teams in an agile/scrum environment, promoting continuous improvement in QA processes, methodologies, and documentation. Stay updated on industry trends and technologies related to manual testing in safety systems, recommending improvements to enhance testing efficiency and effectiveness. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience. 6+ years of hands-on grey box manual QA testing experience, focusing on web and native mobile applications (iOS/Android) in Agile/Scrum environments. Proven experience in testing connected devices (IoT) and their software interfaces, including BLE and Wi-Fi technologies, and firmware testing. Strong understanding of client-server architecture, RESTful APIs, web technologies, mobile operating system behavior, Linux/Unix command line tools, Python/shell scripting, and API testing using Postman. Ability to create clear, traceable test cases and defect reports using tools such as Jira and TestRail, along with strong expertise in QA methodologies, processes, and documentation practices. Exceptional analytical skills with keen attention to detail and the ability to troubleshoot complex issues and perform log analysis effectively. Ability to be adaptive and work in a fast-paced environment. Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the capability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams. Articulate technical concepts clearly, effectively champion user-experience, and ensure worker safety. Preferred Knowledge of industrial safety practices, including Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures and compliance regulations (e.g., OSHA, ISO 45001). Firmware OTA testing on consumer IoT devices, and manufacturing firmware test support experience. Experience testing systems in regulated environments or safety-critical applications, using BLE, NFC-enabled, Biometric, Wi-Fi enabled locks or other safety devices. Basic SQL skills for database verification and familiarity with scripting languages (e.g., Python, Shell) for log parsing. Additional Information Fortune Brands believes in fair and equitable pay. A reasonable estimate of the base salary range for this role is Hiring Pay Range: $100,000 USD - $165,000 USD. Please note that actual salaries may vary within the range, or be above or below the range, based on factors including, but not limited to, education, training, experience, professional achievement, business need, and location. In addition to base salary, employees will participate in either an annual bonus plan based on company and individual performance, or a role-based sales incentive plan.
