Senior Research Scientist, Quantum AI, Practical Techniques

New Yesterday

About the job The Senior Research Scientist role focuses on pathfinding of practical leading techniques for quantum computations on Google’s processors. This role bridges theoretical quantum protocols and real-world quantum computing by creating methods that accelerate and enhance performance on noisy quantum processors, and on early Quantum Error Correction (QEC) systems in the future. The work includes theory, numerical modeling, and optimization of existing approaches and pioneering new ones for multi-stage quantum experiments to evolve. Google Quantum AI aims to build a large-scale, error-corrected computer and unlock solutions to classically intractable problems. The US base salary range for this full-time position is $166,000-$244,000 plus bonus, equity, and benefits. Compensation details are based on role, level, location, experience, and education. Your recruiter can share the specific salary range for your preferred location during the hiring process. Learn more about benefits at Google. Location Goleta, CA, USA; Los Angeles, CA, USA; Mountain View, CA, USA; San Francisco, CA, USA (candidate location may be discussed during the process). Responsibilities Research and develop methods for high-accuracy quantum computation on noisy practical systems, including error mitigation, suppression, and robust quantum protocols. This includes theory, numerical modeling and simulations, and close collaboration with experiments. Validate and stress-test work in practical scenarios used by users and practitioners. Collaborate across theoretical and experimental teams to disseminate knowledge and facilitate technology transfer and development. Innovate, patent, and publish research findings in peer-reviewed publications and present at conferences. Qualifications PhD degree in Physics, Computer Science, Engineering, Quantum Information Science, or a related technical field or equivalent experience. 2 years of experience in Quantum Computing, Chemistry, Computational Physics, Mathematical Modeling, or Applied Mathematics. Experience with experimental operation of quantum systems. Preferred qualifications Experience contributing to or leading projects within large-scale industry or scientific collaborations. Experience in quantum protocols, characterization methods, and advanced error mitigation/suppression techniques. Track record of impactful research publications in the field of Quantum Computing.
