The Identity division is redefining how identity is used to secure access in a cloud-first, mobile-first world. We are seeking a Senior Software Engineer to join our team building authentication libraries that power secure access for Microsoft applications—including Outlook, Word, Excel, Teams, and Authenticator—as well as thousands of third-party apps. These libraries are foundational to Microsoft’s identity platform and are used by millions of developers and end users worldwide. In this role, you will design and implement secure, scalable, and high-performance authentication components that enable seamless single sign-on (SSO) and access to cloud resources. You will collaborate with product managers, security experts, and engineering teams across Microsoft to ensure our solutions meet high standards of security, reliability, and usability. This position offers a unique opportunity to work on highly visible, security-critical projects that directly impact Microsoft’s core businesses and customer trust. You will gain expertise in authentication protocols, secure API design, telemetry, and threat mitigation, helping shape the future of identity and access management. This Hybrid Position is located at our Microsoft office in Redmond, Washington or Atlanta, Georgia . Relocation support will be provided, and successful candidates will need to relocate or reside within 50 miles of the field location. Responsibilities Design and develop features to enhance developer experience and create delightful customer experiences Follow and promote modern software engineering practices through design reviews Engage with open source communities to deliver features that meet customer needs Improve test coverage, organize and implement integration tests, and resolve issues Consider testability, portability, reliability, and maintainability in development Collaborate with mentors and leaders to contribute to cohesive user experiences Focus on customer and partner needs through a data-driven approach Qualifications Required/Minimum Qualifications Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related field AND 4+ years of experience in software engineering with Java or Kotlin OR equivalent experience 2+ years of experience with Android development Other Requirements: Ability to meet security screening requirements, including passing Microsoft background checks. Preferred Qualifications Master's Degree in Computer Science or related field AND 6+ years of experience, or Bachelor's Degree with 8+ years of experience Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines Knowledge of security best practices and secure software implementation Deep understanding of authentication protocols like OAuth, OpenID Connect, SAML; experience building SDKs Salary range varies by location, with specific ranges for different regions.
