We are looking for a Senior Staff Lead Full Stack Engineer to join our team. The goal of a Senior Staff Lead Full Stack Engineer at Wisk is to design, develop, and implement sophisticated models and infrastructure within our simulation environment. You will be part of the Autonomy Simulation team that builds and simulates crucial autonomy capabilities in the urban air mobility space In this critical role, you'll be instrumental in architecting, developing, and maintaining a cutting-edge simulation framework and modeling. You'll drive the development of robust data pipelines, ensure seamless data exchange, and provide technical leadership while contributing to front-end development as needed. Your deep expertise in aviation autonomy will be key to shaping the future of our simulation capabilities.
This is a hybrid work opportunity. At Wisk, this means working onsite at our Mountain View, CA office 3 days per week with flexibility for the remainder of the days.
What You Will Do
- Lead the design, architecture, and development of a robust and scalable full-stack simulation framework and modeler.
- Architect and optimize data pipelines and middleware for efficient ingestion, processing, and analysis of simulation data, facilitating seamless exchange between simulations and external labs. This will heavily leverage GCP and AWS services and CI/CD pipelines.
- Drive the development and integration of new features and functionalities into the simulation platform, pioneering innovative solutions to complex challenges in aviation autonomy.
- Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior engineers, fostering a culture of best practices and continuous improvement.
- Collaborate closely with subject matter experts, product managers, and other engineering teams to translate complex aviation autonomy requirements into technical designs and solutions.
- Contribute to front-end development, ensuring a user-friendly and intuitive experience for interacting with the simulation framework.
- Implement and maintain APIs for seamless integration with other internal and external systems.
- Oversee troubleshooting and debugging across the full stack, ensuring high performance, reliability, and scalability of the simulation environment.
- Drive code reviews, testing strategies, and deployment processes, ensuring high-quality and resilient software releases.
- Communicate effectively and strategically with team members, cross-functional stakeholders, and leadership to ensure alignment, share technical insights, and drive project success.
- Stay at the forefront of emerging technologies and best practices in full stack development, large-scale simulation, and aviation autonomy, advocating for their adoption when appropriate
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field with 12+ years of relevant experience, including significant lead or senior-level contributions.
- Strong programming skills in Python or similar languages (e.g., Java, Go, C++), demonstrating expertise in building complex, high-performance systems.
- Extensive proven experience in architecting, building, and maintaining advanced data pipelines and middleware for complex data exchange and processing.
- Deep hands-on experience with cloud platforms, specifically GCP and AWS, including an understanding of their advanced services for data, compute, and networking.
- Expertise with Redis (or similar framework) for high-performance caching, session management, and real-time data operations.
- Proficiency in both front-end and back-end technologies, with a strong emphasis on architectural best practices.
- Back-end: Experience with relevant frameworks (e.g., Django, Spring Boot, Node.js) and designing scalable APIs.
- Front-end: Experience with modern JavaScript frameworks such as React
- Solid understanding of complex database systems (relational and/or NoSQL) and advanced data modeling techniques for large datasets.
- Demonstrated experience in leading the development of sophisticated simulation frameworks or similar complex modeling environments.
- Direct and significant experience with or a profound understanding of aviation autonomy and airspace concepts (e.g., UAVs, autonomous flight systems, air traffic management, mission planning).
- Extensive experience implementing large-scale, highly parallel workflows using orchestration tools like Kubernetes or similar.
- Proven experience developing and maintaining robust system-level test infrastructure and comprehensive test scripts for complex software applications.
- Strong command of Linux environments and advanced containerization technologies (e.g. Docker,).
- Exceptional communication and collaboration skills, with a proven ability to lead technical discussions, mentor team members, and influence cross-functional stakeholders effectively.
- Problem-Solving: Superior problem-solving abilities, with a relentless focus on innovation, strategic thinking, and driving continuous improvement in complex technical domains.

Pay Range the Company expects to pay: $205,556 - $241,830 per year - The starting base salary within this range for this role varies based on factors such as your geographical location, and your relevant job-related experience that is consistent with a business necessity.
