The Tax Attorney will advise on all aspects of optimizing corporate tax, defend high net worth clients against tax agencies and IRS disputes. Assist clients with the organization and operation of their business enterprises, the planning, structuring, financing, negotiation, and execution of business transactions, including mergers, acquisitions, divestitures, spin-offs, restructurings, re-capitalizations, and joint ventures. Develop and execute tax planning strategies. Handle court filings, motions, responses, appeals, negotiations, and defense. Experience handling cases from administrative appeals boards to State and US Supreme Court at all levels of the judicial process is required. This is a very forward-facing position. You will be in constant communication with clients and the face of our engagements, not confined to a support role or back office. Success depends on your ability to be flexible, multi-task, and wear various hats. Clients often come with multiple challenges that get addressed during their matters. Success is defined by what is best for the client, given their resources, and by the results we achieve. This role is remote/hybrid with flexibility on location and working hours, though many clients are in the Pacific Time Zone. Attorneys in EST or CST zones generally start and end earlier. Our headquarters is in San Diego, with in-person meetings 2-3 times yearly. Expected output is roughly nine hours a day, 1750 annual billable hours, based on a 48-week year and an 85% utilization rate. Skills Required 3+ years of experience in Tax, MA, Corporate, or Asset Protection Law. Experience working with high net worth clients and complex transactions. Strong experience in legal research and writing. Growth-oriented and willing to take on increasing challenges. Skills Preferred Licensed Attorney in California is a plus but not required. Knowledge of income tax mitigation structures and trusts is a plus. Experience working with large regional firms, IRS Office of Chief Counsel, or Big 4 Accounting Firms.
