Job Type: Direct Hire
Schedule: For first 6 months, will be 5 days onsite. From there, transitions into a hybrid setting
Hours: Standard university hours (35-hour week, but workload may require additional hours).

Base pay range
Base pay range: $100,000.00/yr - $105,000.00/yr

Key Responsibilities
- Oversee preparation and submission of University and affiliate federal, state, and foreign tax returns (including 990, 990-T, DC-20, NY CHAR 500, FBAR, and related extensions).
- Manage monthly DC tax return filing and annual property/personal property tax returns.
- Monitor and ensure compliance for sales tax across multiple jurisdictions (DC, VA, PA, MD).
- Research tax implications of University transactions and provide recommendations to leadership.
- Act as central contact for IRS and state inquiries, managing responses and examinations.
- Partner with departments across campus on UBIT (Unrelated Business Income Tax) evaluations, reporting, and recordkeeping.
- Provide guidance on international tax matters (foreign vendors, treaty benefits, study abroad programs, etc.).
- Maintain tax policies, processes, and training to ensure compliance and efficiency.
- Stay current with federal, state, and international tax regulations and advise finance leadership on changes.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance (international degrees considered).
- Minimum 3 years of tax preparation, financial reporting, or public accounting experience.
- Required: Nonprofit tax experience (higher education strongly preferred).
- Experience in large/complex organizations.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills (must interface with internal and external stakeholders).
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word; experience with PeopleSoft GL/HCM a plus.
- Ability to work independently, take initiative, and manage multiple priorities.

- Works closely with the Controller & Treasurer, Accounting Manager, and departments across the University
