Role Summary
The Associate Counsel - Contracting and R&D reports to the Deputy General Counsel and is responsible for supporting contracting and R&D activities. These activities include providing full contracting services to Servier Pharmaceuticals and Servier Bio-Innovation business clients. In addition, duties include supporting various businesses in creating strategies for establishing, operationalizing, and enforcing contracting with third parties and product strategies.
Primary Responsibilities
Provide contracting legal support to key US functions in Servier Pharmaceuticals and Servier Bio-Innovation
Draft and finalize routine, non-routine, complex and novel contracts for a variety of functional internal clients in an effective, efficient and time-sensitive manner
Support negotiations with third parties and, where appropriate, negotiate directly with third parties
Advise, counsel and educate business stakeholders regarding legal and risk management issues as part of their activities
Support the implementation and updating of appropriate and effective contract templates, playbooks and contracting trainings.
Report on the status of contracting activities to the Deputy General Counsel
In coordination with the Deputy General Counsel and other members of the team, provide legal support in connection with a portion of R&D activities.
Collaborate with other members of the US Legal, Ethics and Compliance Team, as well as Global Legal, on issues of mutual responsibility
Education And Required Skills
JD or LLM from an accredited US law school
Admitted to practice in a recognized US jurisdiction and registered with the MA Board of Bar Overseers as Massachusetts In-House Counsel if not admitted in MA
4-7 years experience working in the biopharmaceutical industry, including drafting and negotiating a broad range of agreements relevant in the industry
Previous tenure at a top-tier law firm, practicing in the life sciences, pharmaceutical, biotech, digital health, and/or healthcare practice areas a plus
Strong interpersonal & presentation skills, along with the ability to communicate and build relationships with others at all levels of the organization
Ability to clearly, and concisely, explain complex legal principles and positions to business audiences
Ability to handle, prioritize and follow through on a high volume of work, setting appropriate priorities with internal clients and delivering results efficiently
Willingness and proven ability to learn and expand legal practice to topics outside current expertise in order to meet the needs of a young and rapidly growing company
Travel and Location
Boston based
Hybrid role with expectation to be in office 2-3 days per week
Minimal travel as required
