THIS POSITION CAN WORK IN EITHER OUR ANCHORAGE OFFICE OR OUR SEATTLE OFFICE Overview The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) is a key member of the senior leadership team, reporting directly to the CEO. This role is responsible for the direction and oversight of all aspects of the company’s financial activity, including financial and investment strategy, accounting, budget, forecasting, and other internal and external financial reporting. The CFO will play a critical role in supporting both operational excellence and long-term growth in fisheries, quota management, vessel operations, and seafood markets. This position routinely presents complex financial information to board members, banks and lending institutions, and other key stakeholders. Primary Responsibilities Oversee all financial operations of CVRF, its subsidiaries, and partnerships, including accounting, budgeting, forecasting, cash management, and financial analysis. Ensure accuracy and completeness of financial records and prepare financial reports for the CEO and Board of Directors. Support operational decision-making by evaluating the economics of fishing operations, quota leasing, and processing arrangements. Collaborate with the CEO and senior leadership to develop and implement strategic plans aligned with organizational goals. Provide financial insights on major investments, acquisitions, vessel financing, quota share transactions, and seafood processing ventures. Monitor economic trends, fisheries legislation, and regulatory changes (e.g., NOAA/NMFS, state regulations) and advise on business impacts. Lead the annual budgeting process, monitor performance against budgets, and provide regular updates and analysis to the executive team. Develop long-term financial forecasts incorporating industry cycles, quota allocations, and community benefit obligations. Lead due diligence on investment opportunities, including vessel acquisitions, quota purchases, and joint ventures. Assess financial risk and return of potential deals in the fishing, seafood, and related industries. Oversee change management and integration of new acquisitions or investments. Identify financial risks, including those unique to fisheries (quota price volatility, bycatch limits, operational downtime). Develop strategies to mitigate financial and operational risks, including insurance, claims, and maritime liabilities. Ensure compliance with financial regulations and standards, as well as fisheries quota program requirements. Manage and mentor the finance team, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and professional development. Communicate and collaborate with other CVRF teams (operations, programs, board) to further the company mission. Represent the company with professionalism in engagements with lenders, auditors, regulators, and community stakeholders. Perform other duties as assigned by the CEO or Board. Knowledge & Skills Bachelor’s Degree in Finance, Accounting, or related field; Master’s degree preferred. CPA, CFA, or MBA is a plus. Minimum of ten years of progressively responsible senior finance experience, ideally with exposure to fishing, seafood, maritime, native corporations, or CDQ groups. Strong knowledge of finance, banking, accounting, business processes, and production management. Demonstrated experience with vessel operations, quota systems, or seafood processing economics highly desirable. Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook; broad experience with financial systems/software preferred. Ability to communicate complex financial information clearly to both financial and non-financial stakeholders. High regard for accuracy, attention to detail, and strong organizational skills to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
