Director of Operations – Tax & Consulting

Be the operational heartbeat of a growing, people-first team. We’re not just building a business—we’re building a culture where people thrive, teams unite, and growth feels purposeful. Our Tax & Consulting group is expanding, and we’re seeking a Director of Operations to take our people, processes, and platforms to the next level.

This is not a back-office role. It’s a chance to shape how the firm scales, how teams work together, and how new firms integrate seamlessly into the organization. We need a leader who can balance execution with empathy—someone who is as skilled at building trust and culture as they are at streamlining processes and driving M&A integrations.

If you love bringing structure to complexity, thrive on connecting people across functions, and want to make a tangible impact on a fast-growing organization, this could be your career-defining opportunity.

What You’ll Do

  • Lead with impact: Guide a 20+ person operations and administrative team, ensuring clarity, accountability, and collaboration across Tax & Consulting.
  • Be the integrator: Serve as the operational lead for post-close M&A, ensuring smooth onboarding of new firms, people, and processes.
  • Optimize & modernize: Drive process improvements and implement technology solutions that enhance efficiency and scalability.
  • Champion culture: Foster a people-first environment where communication flows, innovation is welcomed, and teams feel connected to the mission.
  • Partner to grow: Work hand-in-hand with senior leadership and regional directors to align strategy, execution, and long-term goals.
  • Location: Based out of Rockford, IL headquarters or Tax Centers in St. Charles, IL; Iowa City, IA; Cedar Rapids, IA; Dover, DE; or Lewes, DE. Travel will be required during integrations.
  • Work Model: More in-office time during onboarding; potential for hybrid (3 days in-office, 2 remote) once established.
  • Hours: Standard business hours with flexibility. Expect 55–60 hours/week during Tax Season (Jan–Apr).
  • Scope: Leadership role with both operational and strategic impact, balancing hands-on execution with mentorship.

What We’re Looking For

  • 7–10 years of leadership experience in operations, professional services, or consulting (tax/financial industry background a plus).
  • Proven success leading cross-functional initiatives and navigating change.
  • Strategic problem solver with a willingness to roll up sleeves.
  • Excellent communicator and relationship-builder with executives and front-line team members.
  • Strong track record of building and leading high-performing teams.
  • Skilled in process improvement, systems implementation, and performance measurement.

Why Join Us?

  • A growing, independent, employee-owned firm with a fee-only model.
  • A people-first culture grounded in excellence, integrity, respect, growth, and servant leadership.
  • A collaborative, innovative environment where your work has real impact.
  • Base Salary Range: $127,500 – $180,000, depending on experience, skills, and location. Additional compensation opportunities may apply.
  • Choice of medical, dental, and vision plans
  • Health Savings Account (HSA) / Flexible Spending Account (FSA) options
  • Company-paid life, AD&D, short- and long-term disability
  • 401(k) with company match (Roth & Traditional)
