Overview Director, Engineering – Global Finance Technology (GFT) SIMPL program, to support the Strategic Incremental Modernization of Premium & Loss flagship program. SIMPL is GFT’s strategic program to simplify and streamline premium & loss financial and regulatory capabilities aligned with finance business priorities, supporting Corporate, GRS and USRM. This role is a critical contributor to the development, delivery, and support of the long-term Finance ecosystem product vision. This role has a hybrid work schedule (2 days onsite) and candidates based in Portsmouth, NH and Boston, MA are considered. Primary Responsibilities Lead the delivery and ongoing support of the SIMPL program to enable finance and regulatory capabilities across key portfolios, including USRM Frontier, GRS’ Evergreen, USRM Small Commercial initiatives, and Enterprise Reinsurance. Drive the strategic replacement of legacy mainframe applications with SIMPL as the core platform foundation, ensuring robust, scalable data ingestion and curation processes for premium and loss data. Oversee multiple cross-functional teams and delivery tracks as the SIMPL program scales; ensure alignment, timely execution, risk mitigation, and proactive issue resolution to drive program outcomes. Optimize staffing models and manage resource capacity and costs to support program growth and operational efficiency. Contribute to the strategic architecture vision for long-term data ingestion into Finance, starting with domestic data and partnering with architects from GFT, GRS, USRM for alignment on design & delivery. Additional Job Scope Develops and implements business and/or technology vision, critical success factors, and operating plans; communicates department/enterprise vision and high-level migration plans. Anticipates technology evolution and relates it to business solutions; sets direction aligned with business and technology standards. Ensures architectures are aligned with business objectives and actively manages technical debt and system health for long-term scalability. Promotes agile leadership, coaching managers and teams in continuous improvement and adaptive delivery practices. Hires and manages managers; may hire and coach individual contributors; guides staff assessments, promotions, and compensation considerations. Defines staffing strategy (FTEs, skills, experience, internal/external mix) and ensures execution of hiring, firing, and promotions decisions. Sets performance objectives and development plans; administers performance reviews and compensation considerations. Oversees vendor relationships, contracts, and integration of external teams into program culture and processes. Manages department financial plans and targets; collaborates with business partners on financial goals. Oversees multiple projects with defined scope and schedule; allocates resources and prioritizes workloads in response to changing priorities. Implements process and organizational improvements; applies IT standards and solutions to business processes and issues. Ensures regulatory, audit, and governance compliance through controls and change management in program execution. Builds partnerships with clients, vendors, IT and senior executives to align client needs with business priorities. Maintains industry network; analyzes trends to inform strategic and tactical recommendations. Qualifications Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in a technical or business discipline. Minimum 10+ years of Software Engineering experience. Minimum 5+ years in a leadership role. Minimum 5+ years’ technical experience leading projects and portfolio management. Ability to create a compelling implementation roadmap and serve as a subject matter expert for Finance Systems in the portfolio. Experience managing financial and regulatory complexities; adherence to enterprise design, architecture standards, and change management; operationalize solutions through hyper-care and transition to support. Proven project management skills including resource allocations, budgets, work plans, risk management, and status reporting. Dynamic leadership to energize multi-disciplined teams and execute strategies based on current and future needs. Coaching ability to resolve conflicts and improve performance; strong communication, negotiation, and stakeholder management skills. In-depth IT concepts, business operations understanding, and ability to align technology strategies with business objectives.
