Overview Director, Translational Lead – Renal, Inflammation and Fibrosis At GSK, we pursue bold patient-focused ambitions and integrate science, technology and talent to get ahead of disease. This role sits within the RIITU in the RIIRU therapy area and is responsible for end-to-end translational science to inform biomarker strategies from preclinical to launch, enabling earlier and higher-confidence asset decisions and supporting PoM, PoC, and responder population predictions. We are seeking a dynamic leader to contribute to these efforts. Key Responsibilities
Disease Biomarker Strategy Development and Delivery: Partner with Clinical Teams, Research Technologies and Development to identify, prioritize and validate disease-relevant biomarkers, mechanistic/surrogate biomarkers, patient stratification, and differential response prediction; deploy biomarkers into clinical studies and interpret data/results.
Translational Leadership: Provide strategic leadership to develop and execute translational research strategies that support discovery and development of novel therapeutics; evaluate business development opportunities.
Translational Innovation: Evaluate novel techniques and technologies (e.g., spatial transcriptomics) to inform translational initiatives and biomarker development; guide validation of human assays to enhance translation using resources such as the Human Cell Atlas and disease tissue multi-omics data.
Cross-functional Collaboration: Work with Translational, Disease Teams, Genetics & Genomics, biology groups, biomarker platforms, Medicine Development Teams, data science, regulatory affairs, BD, and commercial teams to integrate translational research across the drug development lifecycle.
External Partnerships: Build and maintain collaborations with academic institutions, CROs and other partners to access technologies, reagents, biosamples and biomarker expertise; engage external experts and key opinion leaders.
Matrix Leadership: Mentor and develop the team; manage disease and project resources, budgets and timelines; represent RI Translational Unit at portfolio governance reviews to inform pipeline and investment decisions.
Why you?
Basic Qualifications
Ph.D. in a relevant scientific discipline (e.g., Cell/Molecular Biology, Genetics, Pharmacology, Physical Chemistry or related field).
Extensive experience in translational science and biomarker development, ideally in the pharmaceutical or biotechnology industry.
Recognised translational/biomarker expert with scholarly publications and field contributions.
Experience translating biomarkers in Renal, Inflammation and/or Fibrotic indications.
Experience in clinical trial settings, contributing to clinical study activities and clinical/regulatory documentation oversight.
Knowledge of regulatory requirements, industry standards and compliance in Translational Research and biomarker development/validation.
Broad knowledge of technologies and methods used in translational research.
Proven track record of program decision making through biomarker strategies and translational insights supporting drug progression.
Experience leading/external collaborations and evaluating business development opportunities.
Strong management skills to prioritize multiple objectives and meet timelines with attention to detail and high performance.

Adaptive to a fast-paced, evolving research environment with strong problem-solving and critical-thinking skills.
Preferred Qualifications
Awareness of bioinformatic/computational methods to support integrated analysis of translational and biomarker data sets.
Work Location : This role is based in the United Kingdom or the United States with a hybrid on-site/remote model.
