Stanford University is seeking a Financial Analyst 1 to perform moderately complex finance functions related to budgeting and forecasting, requiring specific knowledge, skills, and broad application of policies, precedents, and systems within the context of internal policies and external regulations. This role supports internal cost recovery activities, billing operations, financial reconciliation, and forecasting for key services and shared building expenses in a dynamic research and operations environment.
Duties include:
Perform structured analysis; conduct data mining; identify, clarify, and investigate discrepancies and exceptions; proactively develop solutions and processes.
Maintain, reconcile, review, combine, and validate financial data sets and accounts, utilizing financial reports, financial databases, and key financial information.
Contribute to development of budget, forecasting, and analyses for decision-making.
Run and analyze financial reports from multiple systems; assist in management information reports.
Resolve issues within the work unit; perform preliminary analysis; recognize exceptions; recommend solutions that may require policy changes or new processes.
Ensure compliance with complex internal policies and external regulations, including interpretation as needed.
Participate as a project team member and contribute to change management strategies through communication and collaboration.
Serve as a first-line resource to client groups on work unit matters.
Understand and participate in cross-training on core functions; serve as a back-up to other functions.
May supervise daily activities and provide coaching and training to staff, as needed.

Desired Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related field.
Two or more years of relevant financial experience.
Knowledge of accounting principles and financial reconciliation practices.
Strong attention to detail and analytical skills.
Ability to communicate complex financial concepts clearly.
Familiarity with sponsored project guidelines and internal recharge policies preferred.
Education & Experience (Required): Bachelor's degree and two years of relevant experience or equivalent combination.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (Required):
Proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Excel.
Experience with financial systems and internet literacy.
Basic accounting skills and concepts.
Effective communication skills.
Basic project management skills.
Physical Requirements:
Constant sitting.
Perform desk-based computer tasks; use telephone; write by hand; sort/file paperwork.
Occasional standing/walking; lift/carry objects weighing 11-20 pounds.
Rarely reach/work above shoulder.

This remote role is open nationwide. Compensation varies by location, with an expected range of $77,777 to $94,290 annually.
Pay ranges are estimates; actual offers depend on various factors including qualifications, location, and market conditions.
